Will 30 amp svc be enough for DP (50amp) Inverter to work?

We have a DP, 50 amp svc MH. If we plug into 30 amp svc when parked inside garage bldg, will 30 amps supply enough power for inverter to keep chassis and house batteries charged?

Thanks for clearing this question up for us.

Safe travels to all

The charger usually uses 3-4 amps and can use 10 amps or so with heavy loads. So yes, should be fine.

The answer to that question is MAYBE.....
YES, if your coach is wired so that the inverter/charger charges BOTH the chassis battery and the house batteries.
Some only charge the house batteries, (NOT the chassis battery).

My coach has been stored for 14 Wisconsin winters plugged into a 20 AMP garage receptacle via a 50 foot 12/3 extension cord, with no battery problems.

Yes, if, both house and chassis batteries are charged by the converter. Often only the house batteries are connected to the converter for charging.

So the REAL answer is MAYBE. It depends on how it is wired.

It should but it would be a good idea to test it in a 30 amp. plug just to make sure.

Stranger things have happened!

What coach do you have?

That will help with the proper answer.

When my coach is not being used AND is plugged into 120VAC power my inverter/charger automatically maintains the charge in my batteries.
It does not matter whether the shore power is 50 AMP, 30 Amp or 20 AMP.

My coach is plugged into a 30 amp plug and easily charges. I have 30 amp in my MH storage barn and also use 30 amp at our lakeside campsite. Batteries charge just fine. Only problem with 30 amp is trying to run more than 1 A/C or the dryer etc. Otherwise you need 50. But for storage 30 amp is PLENTY.

Over the winter our coach is plugged into a standard 15 AMP 110-volt house outlet. All the batteries stay charged just fine.

When hooked up to AC best to check the battery water level every two weeks you don't want to boil them dry.

For batteries yes...

Floating the batteries only requires 0.1% C where C is battery capacity in amp hours.

So for fun...

Assume 2 sets of golf cart batteries for cabin and 1D for starting.

For easy math we use round numbers.

2 golf battery strings @200 AH each is 400 AH.

1 8D cranking battery @200 AH Totaling 600 AH.

Divide by 100 to get 1% is 6 amps now by 10 for 0.1% and you get 0.6 amps @13.6 volts.

Chargers have overhead as well as parasitic loads both 12 volt and 120 vac.

So a 15 amp wall socket will maintain batteries just fine.

Search the forum regarding battery charging so you understand charging system operation so you can determine if your MH is properly setup to properly maintain the charge in all of the battery systems installed in it.
