Anyone have experience with the wind sensor on a A & E Weather Pro Awning ??
Mine stopped working,
Can it be dissassembled and cleaned ??
Can it be repaired or maintained ??

Gregg, I don't recall anyone pulling any maintainance on their sensor. Just curious as to how you have isolated your problem to the sensor. Hate to ask this, but perchance has your unit been turned off at the "Black Box"? IIRC the sensor translates wind speed into a temprature number that causes the awning to retract. A little "witchy" !!..In my experience, a call to the A&E Tech folks is worthwhile...rgr...

Gregg,
I have been having the same problem with our A & E WeatherPro Awning since last Summer. While attending the FMCA Pomona rally a couple of weeks ago, I went to their tech area. They checked out the control box and it's, OK but indicated that the sensor on the roof is faulty. Evidently many of the sensors are having problems, do to too much heat on the top surface. I was given a new complete kit including controller, sensor and key chain remote operator at no cost. The new roof sensor has an aluminum heat sink on top. humm... Going to install next week.

I have documentation that states, if the black control box beeps you have one of two possible faults. Either a bad cable from the control unit to the roof or a bad wind sensor. If you have 12v at the end of the cable on the roof the cable is OK and thus the wind sensor is defective. Applies to my 2005 PowerPro awning. The control box was changed in 2006 and I don't know if the above applies to that new design or not.

(BTW, the black control box will also beep if the ambient temperature goes below 32.)

I'm having the same problem with mine after less than a year on the road. I have an appointment at the dealer in a couple of weeks and this is on the list.

Ok here is the good and bad news. Chances are the wind sensor is bad. The good news is it is a easy fix, the bad news is for your year, the wind sensor and control box are "married" too one another and they are usually changes together, otherwise the sensor will not operate correctly. I was at Dometic a year ago for factory training and that has since changed on the newer models.
First check the data cable connection goign into the control box(looks like a phone line) make sure it is not corroded and is snapped in like a phone line. If that appears ok, with the box in a normal operation if you here a steady beep there is a problem which could be the cable but more than likely is the sensor.(also check that there are no debres in the sensor, leaves the twirly thing off oaks ect) The cables rarely go unless there has been something newly installed and it got either kinked or a screw driven through it( I have seen that). There was a problem with overheating, and the replacement will come with a reflective sticker to put on top.
If you have further questions just e-mail me. When you do the replacement make sure you have a tube of dicor to seal around the new sensor!

My sensor was bad, and the control box had a steady beep. Since I changed the sensor and control box everything has worked fine (tested wind sensor in Myrtle Beach!)

Lenny,
Thanks for the info.
I just called my local dealer, $260 for the box & sensor kit !!
I am not happy !!
Tried to contact Dometic, they are worthless.
If at all possible I will never purchase another Dometic product again.
Anyway, I feel a bit better now,
any ideas on where to get that "kit" other than my dealer, internet outlet ??
This sensor looks simple, any ideas for a frx ??
Thanks
Gregg

Gregg, I too would be interested in a parts source as mine continually beeps. Think the sensor is bad. I have used this thing less than 20 times in two years before it went out. We have been using it with the sensor "off" until I can locate a parts source.

You're right, Dometic is worthless. No customer support. I too will never have another Dometic product and will take every opportunity to let others know what a lousy product and customer support they have.

My wind sensor has been replaced twice, both under warranty luckily. Unfortuantely the next one is on me.... My dealer diagnosed the problem each time and fixed it. Hopefully this one will last a while.
