For years I have removed both of my TT batteries, and placed them a basement. I would charge them periodically throughout the cold months. Now I am wondering if this is necessary in order to keep the batteries from freezing, or maybe to extend their life. Remove or not remove batteries? If left installed, could I just plug up occasionally to charge them? Thanks!

Charged batteries will not freeze.

I leave mine in and plug the rig into shore power once every 30 days or so. I also have a main battery disconnect switch that I turn to off to prevent various circuit board from gradually running them down.

Thanks Hitchhiker! I will leave my batteries in, then. I don't have elec. power where I park my trailer, but I can use a dropcord to juice up periodically. I gotta visit here more often. I only seem to pop in when I need help. I always find help too.

You might want to consider a solar panel. One that will automatically keep the batteries charged. Make sure it's a good one that will keep the batteries in a float state. This will not overcharge them and also keep them from freezing.

If my batteries are in good condition and fully charged, I just disconnect the neg cable and forget them. Both have retained a charge until spring, about 4 months, and still tested about 2/3 on the panel monitor. Using a solar battery maintainer sounds like a great idea. Very inexpensive from Harbor Freight.
