Winterize

When you Winterize coach using air do you need to be worried about the water pump? I know you need to pour some antifreeze in the sink traps and toilet but what about the water pump?

The water pump is full of water. You need to either pump it full of A/F or keep it heated. If it freezes, it will break.

Winter travel

If I pump the water pump full with antifreeze and travel to go south in February can I put 10 gal. of water in fresh water tank when we leave to be able to use toilet? We will be starting in Michigan and heading to Arizona. Hope to be in lower Kentucky or Tennessee at end of first day.

I use the antifreeze tank method. Have for years. Very convenient. Very easy. Very effective. The cost of antifreeze is cheap. I have a tank (easy to make) that holds 8 gallons and is hooked up to the antifreeze bypass. Switch to antifreeze, turn on pump, fill up everything with antifreeze (bypass water heater). drain water tank and water heater, it's done. I put about 4 gallons in the tank for travel. Whenever ready head South and go to fresh water when convinced it's reasonable. Return North. When temperatures dictate dump water and just refill with antifreeze (often have made it home to New York) when real cold I can usually get to northern va. before having to go back to antifreeze. It takes about 10 minutes to go from water to antifreeze. When on antifreeze I can use toilet if necessary. I will run generator and bay heaters to go as long on water as I want. I have gas Bounder. I have bay temperature monitors so I know exactly what is going on. I may go South and back four times between October and April and it's no problem. If weather stops me for a few days and it's cold (to me that's below 20) it really is no problem.

Do you put any water in fresh tank when cold or just pump antifreeze for toilet use? When warm enough do you go to fresh water and sanitize system or just use system without sanitizing?
