Question Wiring an a/c boost start capacitor?

Hello

I spent all morning reading through various forum posts trying to figure out how to upgrade my older coleman ac start capacitor. I believe I can use a supco spp6 in place of the relay/factory cap but I'm not sure how to wire it into my system. Would another model capacitor be a better choice in place of the spp6?. I am trying to decrease the starting load in order to run the AC off a yami 2400.

I colored in the wires in question. Does anyone know for sure which wires would go where after removing the relay and adding a supco start cap?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

The SPP6 will do fine. You can do away with the OEM start relay and start capacitor and connect the SPP6 across the run capacitor terminals. The SPP6 has it own start relay circuit internally and will disconnect once compressor is running. The purple wire and black wire must be connected together to provide power to the common terminal of the compressor.

Ok cool, that sounds simple enough.

Terminate purple and black wires together, junk relay and connect new cap across the red and white wires. Awesome!

I just upgraded from and old 1960's telescoping camper to our first motorhome, an 84 minnie winnie. I cant wait to take her out for our first trip. She may not be new, she may not be perfect but the kids think shes the coolest thing they have ever seen

Thanks for your help.

Ok guys I gave the boost capcitor a shot and It didn't help.

After opening up the ac I found that it already had a 105uf capacitor (old malory) which i beleive is right at about the same capaciance as the supco boost cap. I don't regret replacing it since the new cap also replaced the relay so I know I'm good there but I'm still stuck with my stock 3Kw onan chain saw/tornado generator for now. The only thing I should have done was to buy and install a run cap while I was there, Oh well next time. Hey tincup, the honda 3000 you have is what I thought I would probably end up with. It wont run in eco mode though huh? I guess we need that freakin eu6500 boat anchor of a portable gen then
Or maybe just a more efficient ac. How does your eu3000 run using the ac? Is it full throttle just hanging on or does it just putt along smoothly?

What could be wrong if the compressor doesn't start, other than a bad compressor? How do check for a bad compressor vs. other problems?

You need to check the voltage to the compressor & the amperage of the compressor when voltage is applied. If you find you have LRA (locked rotor amperage) then the compressor is bad.

It is printetd on the side or top of the compressor, but ususally a 13,500 BTU would be around 60 amps.

g30,

The EU3000i just putts along running our 13.4K AC in the bedroom, it'll run 9 hours on a tank of gas. I put a hour meter on it and change the oil every 100 hours. I sure wish I could run it in the ECO mode though

I'm brand new to the motorhome deal but after my recent generator research, I'm surprised that the honda cant run your compressor in eco mode. Thats a bummer.

I wonder if anybody here knows if your honda in eco mode can power the newer high efficiency 13500 ac systems or even better if my Yami 2400is has enough guts? It maybe time for an a/c upgrade
