Wiring Size for 400 Watt Inverter

I recently received as a gift, a modified sine wave(I know) Black & Decker 400 Watt power inverter w/USB charging port. My main intent is to use it power our Toshiba LT and Nuvi 350 when on the road. I have a dual 12v connection which would then plug into the cig receptable and was wondering if the wiring and amp rating of the cig recep would be sufficient to power both of these items. I know I can run a separate set of wires to the battery and mount another separate recep for the inverter but rather not unless I have to. Comments or advice.

If you were to pull the full 400 watt load, you would need to run a heavier feeder for the circuit. At 12 volts, you will be over 30 amps and your cigarette lighter socket is probably 15 or at most 20 amp rated.

I would mount your 400w inverter as close as possible to your coach battery bank. I would then route a 120v extension cord to the area of the 120v appliance you want to power. Much easier and much less line loss.
