So I figure this is the best place for this question. I'm looking at putting in a Dickinson solid fuel heater into my motorhome. Now it seems like it recommends 4 feet for the flue. The location that I would be putting it in would have about 2.5 feet above it. Has anyone else with a wood stove faced similar situations? What have you done about it?

I'd be curious to see something like that.

Best make sure your carbon monoxide detector is working. And learn the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Good luck on your project...sounds like it would be very warm.

Is that for a combustible surface? Can the clearance be reduced if the surface is non-combustible?

Well the 4 feet has to do with the proper air draw. From what I've read a too short has the possibility of back drafting. I have a nice, properly functioning co detector.

I burn myself on almost anything. It would be very dangerous for me to be anywhere near a fireplace. When we got the S&B Thom's mom and dad kept trying to talk him into having us put a fireplace in it. With the fact that he travels it would be trying to keep it fed and lit. With my medical problems and fire hazards there is no way I would have one near me.
If you want to go ahead but not me, thank you very much.
