WOOOHOOO. Black tank gauge is working !!!!
Bought a new to us 07 KSDP last April. The tank gauges showed empty, as they should, when we were checking things before purchase. Later to learn that was all they would register.
Tried the Campers Friend, ice, Pinesol, the whole gambit of products, all to no avail. We are not full timers but have about 70+ nights in the rig this year. We have spent the winter in the RGV, with no gauge I just dump every 7 days. However, Since we are set up, I have used the tank cleaning system several times when I dump observing the fluid thru the clear plastic elbow, I added a few months ago.
And today Wallah.....the tank gauge is working.
So, be patient, use a LOT of water, worked for me.

in additon to the inside tip of the sensors, there is chance that the outside where wire meets the terminal is rusty and loose the firm contact. i fixed mine that way.

First time I've heard of buildup on the tank walls causing the higher up sensors to not read. Usually works the other way around.

+1, I wonder if you really have a intermittent problem, and it was not a problem with the sensors.
Actually there are 4 sensors mounted on the side of your tank.
The highest one that provides a reading it what gets displayed.
So if your #2 sensor was fouled, it would read 1/2 full even when empty...until the #3 sensor sensed the higher level (then show 3/4 full
Hate to rain on the parade, but just keep a lookout for this problem to come back
Regards,
Dan
