Xantrex 458

I have a Xantrex 458 inverter and its not charging the coach batteries. I can't shut the charging side off and it has a continuous flashing green light on the charging power button. Anyone else have this problem. The inverter works fine. Thanks

Unplug what looks like a phone line on the front of the unit and wait
a couple of minutes and plug it back in. That should reset the unit.

Art, I did that and when I plug it back in the inverter comes on and I still get the green blinking light on the charging side when I turn off the inverter off. Any other suggestions? Thanks

Sounds like no AC power to the inverter, check the 30 amp breaker in the MH panel and check the breaker on the front of the 458 if yours has one not to be confused with the AC breakers.

Both seem to be okay. Seven years ago I had a similar problem and it was a 125 milli amp fuse inside the inverter, but had it fixed by a Cummins dealer. I may try and take it apart and check that next. Thanks

I had the same thing happen to me . Make sure your house Batteries are being charged by the engine alternator when you are on the road , if not this will cause charger to go into overheet when you plug into shore power . I had to unplug from shore power and disconnect the batteries to get the lights to stop blinking and would it wouldnt let shore power tru .Used battery charger to bring charge up. Hope this helps

What you describe sounds just like the behaviors mine had before I replaced it. I called Xantrex and they suggested disconnecting the house batteries for ~3 minutes. It worked for me; when I reconnected the charger worked fine...for a while. After the third time I "rebooted" it, I decided to replace it with a Magnum.

Thanks for all the help. I finally had to do a hard reset by disconnecting it completely from the coach and replaced the 250mA fuse, that was also blown. So far, so good. Appreciate all the help.

I am having exactly the same problem. Tech support suggested disconnecting both battery and AC for 4 hours to reset the software. Am trying that now.

Where is the 250mA fuse and what type?

Thanks.

Symptom: Inverter works, but charger does not. Green flashing "Charge" LED. Device does not pass shore power through to outlets.

Diagnosis: The manual and tech support indicated that the flashing green means that the device is not receiving a solid supply voltage (Live, Neutral and Ground), or at least it does not perceive it is.

The reset did not work. Removed the 458 cover and located the two internal fuses. They are not mentioned in the user manual. Both are on circuit boards. The first is 250mA/250v located near the external circuit breaker blocks. The second is nearby on the next circuit board and is 2Amp/250v. You can only see the ends of the fuses as you look in from the left side (left of the control face panel). They are both the GMA size (0.75 inch long glass tube) and I believe that both are slow-blow, but must verify. It was not too easy to find these fuses at retailers. Found one at Ace Hardware and the other at Radio Shack.

Replaced blown 250mA fuse and all seems back to normal.

Problem may have originated with loose neutral wire connection in main breaker box. Tightened all wire connection screws in breaker box and replaced some with new screws.
