Xantrex RS 3000 PSW inverter fault

My Xantrex goes into fault mode when moving from one location to another. Not while on the road, just when I stop and plug into shore power. I have to physically get to the imverter and push the reset. But now, not even that is working. The charger and passthrough circuits are dead but I can get the inverter to work by putting a battery charger on the batteries so I still get power inside, just not through the Xantrex incoming side. Output is fine though.

My guess would be batteries are the issue.

do you have a multimeter with you? check the shore power supply first. if your rig is plugged into 50a outlet, between the two hot poles, it should be 0v (single phase) or 240v (split phase). between any hot pole to neutrual, it should be 110-120v. also check the ground a real ground.

if all is well, then check the ac input to inverter.

Batteries are just over a year old, happens when on shore power and running the generator doesn't work either. Still gives the fault message.

What is the battery voltage when in fault condition?

Countryfit brings up a good point. We had similar issues that were related to the 50 amp cord. The wires had arcked (sp) in the housing on the coach to tothe point if a bad connection. 3 experts 3 different diagnosis, bad inverter, bad switch and need to replace fuse box,. We did replace inverter to a pure sine wave, but none fixed the problem.
We were doing the same thing with a battery charger to keep it going.
I replaced the cord and no problems since.
Some times everything worked fine other times, no power on one leg (that the inverter was on). This drained and killed our batteries. My take away was to start small on electrical issues.

Well, now my batteries are completely dead, no 12 V power to anything even when plugged in and the inverter having no faults. Supposed to head to a NWCC (NorthWest Country Coach) Thanksgiving rally today.
Can't even lower the shades, nor use the key fob to unlock the door.
Got two surgeries coming up, one on Dec 4th and another on Dec 28th and can't even run the water pump to winterize the rig.

and I do hope you measure the voltage going into the inverter both AC and DC.
Since you know your inverter puts out AC, while a battery charger is connected, but you do not say where you connect the charger to.
Of course if you download a copy of the owners manual it will give you a few reasons as to why the fault light comes on. You do not say which Xantrex you have. Inverter or Inverter/Charger
bad battery, too much load on the AC outlet side. Too much DC current draw due to a bad battery or bad connection on a battery. No one will be able to really answer your question, as not enough info.

Title of the thread says it's an RS 3000.

After all is said and done it turns out to be a bad molded on male plug on the shore power cord.

And I did make the rally on time after taking over an hour and a half to get through Portland OR traffic, normally a 20 min trip.
