While I have the capability I rarely turn it on. I have it set for CH 19 so I can just turn it on if I see a traffic backup so I can chose the correct lane to get into prior to being boxed in.

I rarely turn mine on unless I'm traveling with friends, then we use channel 16.

Some RV'ers say they use 13

Most truckers use 19, but I wouldn't want the family to hear most of what's said.

I do flip over to 19 if there is something happening on the road, truckers pass information on wrecks, delays and such real good.

Ch 19, let truckers know when they've cleared me and can pull back to right lane ( I run 58-63). Shut it off if language gets bad, usually in cities.

If you want to communicate with somebody then use Channel 19. You will get some trucker traffic but that can be useful, especially if there are problems on the road. Seldom do I hear objectionable language when we are tuned in as we travel.

I've found that when on the Pacific Coast (I-5) the truckers seem to prefer channel 17.

The truckers don't use the CB like they used to. It used to be constant chatter but now, even if they see the Highway Patrol they rarely report it. I still keep mine on when I travel to pick up highway information or conditions down the road and also hope that if a truck were to see a problem with my Moterhome or toad he would let me know.

Maybe through this forum we can get RV'ers to use channel 13 regularly.

The "Primary" radio is on 19, so I can evesdrop on the truckers

The secondary radio is on 13 (Good sam's channel)

If I ever put in a 3rd radio.. Chan 9 (Emergency)

I'm all for RV's using 13. When I travel I put my CB in the scan mode to pick up any channel from 1 to 40 and have never heard from another RVer.

When I travel. I usually use chan 13. I remember the good sam club designated ch 13 as the rv channel. I think they used to give out stickers that said I monitor ch. 13. Maybe we could start using 13 again just for rvers.

I'll drink to_er, I'll second that! I've never understood the folks that don't like ch19 because of foul language, yet for some reason will not use ch13. If we can convince enough RVers to actually use ch13, I suspect it would be nearly as busy as ch19 over time-minus all the local chatter of course.
As to brand of radio, it really doesn't matter. The antenna and coax can make a cheap radio sound good or an expensive radio sound bad.

I also monitor ch19 but will now also be on 13. Good to know there is an RV ch and I will pass it on to my friends.

Wish I had known about ch 13 last weekend when I broke down in rural Montana. I called over and over on 19, then 16, then even 9. No joy. I was ready to take it out and install a 2 meter. May still anyway.
