Has anyone installed a CB no ground plane antenna? What results did you get? Would another antenna work better?

I have a Firestik 4ft. NGP antenna with M-2 side mount. Very easy installation and works great, also works great on SSBand. Good luck, Happy trails & travel safe.

NGP with 1/2 of the antenna above the roof of the coach is the best way to go for a motorhome.

I take it NGP means "No Ground Plane?"
I am looking for an antenna and will try to find an NGP Firestick, if my assumption is correct.

Hi poppading,
I've installed more NGP antenna kits than I can remember. One must purchase a kit (antenna, wire and mount). Firestik is the only brand I've ever used. The antenna and wire are matched.

1. Do not change the length of the wire. If you have extra wire do not coil it. Lay it out flat, under the dash or other invisible location.
2. Once the install is complete tune the antenna with a SWR meter.

Hi Possum,
See my post just before this post. You'll need to purchase more than the antenna.

I use a 102" whip from the shack. It's mounted to the front bumper because it's metal and the rear isn't. It works great and picks up quite a distance. It only sticks up over the roof about 6 inches. IMHO the 102" whip is the absolute best ant. I have tried many others, in all price ranges, and had the best luck with the whip. It's also very cheap to buy, around 40 bucks for the whip and the mount. Just my opinion, I could be wrong....

The 102" whip is definitely the best antenna to use, but it is a chore for lots of folks to handle and put up with. The NGP is the best compromise.

NGP Firestick is the only way to go. Don't waste your time or money on anything else. I tried the create your own ground plane tricks since I had a couple of standard antennas around. They don't work for beans.

I installed a 3' Firestik NGP today and was able to tune my CB perfectly with my SWR. It was an easy installation and easy to tune.
