What kind of CB do you have and how is your antenna wired? Anyone ever use the Cobra hand held all-in-one and the through-glass antennae??

Have tried the handheld with glass mount. Don't bother...
No reception and buzzing.
Back to old under dash cobra with a firestorm 4' antenna.

I have a Cobra hand held that I carry in my car. I don't think it gets out very well. I also have a Cobra all in the mike CB that I use in my Motorhome and that works great. That one has the antenna on the roof.
There are not as many over the road guys out there on CB's as there used to be. Now they are talking to family and friends on their phones. You can go a long time before you ever hear any Smokey Reports. Most everyone that is still out there is on 19 with the exception of a few places.

I was using the all in one, with an outside mounted antennnae. I didn't like it at all and went back to the old Cobra 29. I only tried it because there was no good place to mount it in the '08, but I mounted it on the side of the console against my leg, and the wife will get the all in one for her car with a through the glass antennae.

Ditto: I have the same set up. Cobra all in the mike CB and roof mount antenna and almost no radio traffic, not like it used to be.
I saw a few motor homes with CBs but not able to communicate with them for whatever reason but when someone came on it was good if they were close, fuzzy if very far away.

My coach was supposed to be Prewired for CB. It was hopeless! I finally installed a firestick NGP (no ground Plane) model that works very well for me. I can talk to other people that are out of sight. It is important to adjust SWR for best performance though.
Have a nice day - Darrel

THANKS for those replies..I think I will try the handheld all-in-one but use a roof mounted antennae.
NEXT question...My 2011 View has a flex antennae on the roof but I can't find a CB hookup....what do you think is the best way to mount????

We have an all-in-one in our coach--never turn it on. We also have two or three old Cobra and Midland units in the basement. Even used to have a base station with a tower. Language got so bad we gave up on using CB's.
Mounting the antenna?? Put it on the sidewall--less chance of having a leak than if on the roof. Signal pattern is a bit biased so you might want to do the dual antenna bit.

I like the side mount idea. My is on the roof and it extends well above everything else, make sure it has a spring, at it will catch tree limbs, anything low.

WHat kind of CB:
1: Top end cobra feeding a Radio Shack "No Ground Plane" antenna which is weged in behind the couch in the slide, SWR 1.0/1 Channel 19
One Realistic (Radio Shack) I got oh, 30 years or so ago, feeding a short mag mount stuck on an ammo case in the basement.. SWR I'm sure I don't want to know, Channel 13, it's for receive only after all.
One Midland hand held.. Built in antenna, Channel OFF
There is another cobra somewhere.. I know not where, May be gone now, it was in my car. it's a bottom end.
Primary radios: Kenwood TS-2000 ham rig in the "Radio Room", Yesau FT-51R hand held with Mirage amplifier substuting for a Kenwood TM-733 in the cockpit.

Through the glass...poor excuse for an antenna. All in the hand held mic...poor quality speaker and poor quality microphone. I would get an inexpensive under the dash ( you can mount it on the side of the seat as well or the side wall) and spend the money on a good NGP (no ground plane) antenna. Minimum length is 3' with 2' above the roof of the coach.
Cobra or Midland are good radios.

I just ordered a Cobra 29 LX Multi-Color Faceplate Radio and a Firestik FG3648 3' No Ground Plane Antenna Kit. The radio has the weather freq. too. I expect it to work well. I will update after installation.

After reading all these replies I guess I'll stay with smaller Cobra unit and some type of roof mount or possible mirror mount with taller stick.
How about replies from View/Navion users who have mounted antennae on roof or mirrors???
