Is it better to stay at the fairgrounds or does anyone have suggestions for nearby campgrounds?

Hamcation is a gathering of amateur radio enthusiasts, similar to an RV rally. Vendors, seminars and such.

I find the fair grounds to be in a rough area. Orange County has a number of very nice parks with RV spots within 30 minutes. I would try those, but this late they not have openings.

Thank you.
I managed to find a place not too far. I was asking around about Colonial drive and someone at the place I am currently at said there was just a shooting around there the other day. I am probably better off driving in with the toad then

Orlando is like most any other city, there are good areas and problem areas. The portion of Route 50 that bisects Orlando is pretty rundown in most cases.

Glad to hear you found a nice spot. I plan to attend Hamcation Friday. Never been, so not sure what to expect.

I am curious to see what might make sense on the road. I licensed up to handle email and weather on SSB for the boat.

Hamcation sounds like fun to me (note user name) but alas,,, I won't be there for a while.. Is this an annual event and if so when is it?

Look for me on 3973 between 3 and 8 am (I usually check into either the Before Breakfast Club, (3-5 Eastern) or Breakfast (5-9 Eastern) clubs. currently /4.

I have gone to Hamcation for two years and stayed both of those years right at the fair grounds. We had no problems and had a great time. lots of power hook ups and water. the showers are "OK" but could be better. Being right there for the whole three days was a lot of fun the best ham, fest I have ever been to.
