Ive just about had it with this Atas 120. I worked on it for so long now and can't find any connection problems, ground problems or whatever else I can think of. I can only wonder if there is something internal that is stopping signals from reaching me. Can anyone suggest a good HF antenna for mounting on an RV. I currently have the Atas mounted on my ladder with a good ground. What I would really like is an antenna that would mount to the existing TV antenna. That way I could crank it up and down.

I use 2 antennas. When I'm going to be in one place for a couple of weeks, I use a Comet CHA250B ground plane. It needs no radials and only takes a few minutes to put up or take down. I mount it on a 18 foot total length telescoping pole attached to my rear ladder. My other antenna is a screwdriver attached to the rear ladder. They both work great. The Comet hears better, probably due to it greater height. The screwdriver is mounted with just the whip above the roof line. It can be left in place going down the road but the whip will hit every overpass you go under. A simple 1 minute job to remove the whip.

Hi all. I am going to buy a IC 720A as my first hf rig, I will use the Tarheel Model 300A screwdriver antenna. I will not use the radio while traveling only when camped. I monitor "52" while moving, using a FT270. Sometimes I put a 25 amp behind it. The antenna is a old telephone truck antenna retuned to 2m.
I read here the idea of using tape measures as a ground plane, neat idea.
Roll em up and they take up so little space.
I will probably put the Tarheel on a tripod when camped, for quick setup and tear down.
Is there a road freq, on 440?
Bill

HI,
What I did was to mount a screwdriver antenna on an old screwdriver type garagedoor opener fastened to the ladder on the back of the motor-home.
put a switch on top and bottom to stop the drive when it reached the end.
Using my antenna analizer I found the best mach did not always come with the antenna all the way up the opener.
Yje problem being finding a motor to raise and lower the antenna.
Doug

I use a Yaesu FT857D and a ATAS 120 screw driver on my F350 while on the road. I have a mount for the antenna on the trailer and a power cord connected to the batteries with an Anderson Power Pole connection in the trailer at my "station".

How does your ATAS 120a work for you. I have the Yaesu 897d. I have C/B and 2 meter 440 antennas setup. I use a ATAS 25 because I had it with the Yaesu 817nd. I use the LDG tuner 897 plus. I will have to mount it on the ladder on a 2012 Tiffin Breeze.
