Just passed all three tests last saturday, so i am awaiting a call sign.
Looking to get some HF antenna on the MH and i see all kinds out there. My interest is to cover the HF bands (10m-160m or maybe 10m-80m). I have acquired a Icom 706MKIIG radio to be used in the MH.

Two kinds of antenna caught my attention:-
1. Screwdriver Antennas such as Alpine
I like the fact that i can tune from inside the MH
2. Vertical antenna such as Eagle One
This one doesn't require tuning

My question is:-
1. How does one solve the ground plane issue with these antennas?
2. How good of a signal report one gets?
3. Do you folks have a good suggestion on what has worked for you?

thank you
Jim

Congratulations on your new achievement.

I don't know much about those antennas.. but, I'd assume if you bonded the unit to your chassis.. you would have a sufficient GP.. albeit pretty directional. Probably might be a good idea to also ground other metal parts to the chassis. For instance doors to frame. Tail pipe to chassis, etc.. with braided grounding material. Others with more experience should pipe in.

Thanks Jeff.. took a bit to read it.. Used to love CW and still do.. but rusty. Can surely still send much better than receive.. especially "reading all those dots n dashes.. HI.

I still have some great older rigs. Used to love low power 10M.. Have an old classic Agronaut.. and that's strictly CW. But, would like to get a new(er) compact all bander to go to go with my 144/440 mobile. I don't have anything on my newer MH yet. Considering a screwdriver unit.. and a few whiskers for the VHF/UHF.. but certainly don't want to look like a porkey pine goin down the road.. HI.
