I mounted a Little Tarheel II on top of my Avion. I should have a good ground plane. I had to build a mount that I can lay down when on the road. The coax and antenna controls come down the frig vent and inside the cabinets. I also have a Ameritron SDC-102 programmable turn counter.

Rather than run the 12 volt line half the length of the trailer, I decided to use a 120/12VDC power supply...only I have to use two 25 amp power supplies.

My Yaesu FT950 is just too big to use in the RV, so I am selling it and getting a Kenwood TS480HX...thus the two power supplies for the 200 watt radio.

If you know of anyone wanting a very low hour (1-1/2 half year old) FT950 that is as close to a 10 as you can get, let me know via a Private message.

Now I am waiting for the new radio and second power supply to show up.

Ken

Ken, Interesting setp...I have a 27ft travel trailer and I fabricated an antenna mount from an RV spare tire mount and put it on the tongue. I use a vertical dipole made from two Antron mobile antennas (similar to Hamsticks). The rig is a Yaesu FT-450D and a small transistor amp and a MFJ 45 amp switching power supply...I have really good luck with the antennas. I normally just operate 75m SSB early in the am and late in the pm.

BTW...I operate a 950 at home...It's a pretty good xcvr....

I'm new to irv2 and you are my first contact.

I usually take my trailer to the Mena, Ark hamfest and am always looking for any other excuse to take it out for some portable operation....

73, Fred (W5HTR)

Fred, welcome to iRV2. Next since you are up near Dallas, you need to make it to one of the Texas Boomers rallies.

I may wind up keeping the FT950...don;y tell the XYL.

I run an FT857d with the ATAS120 on the truck....kind of a mess to unhook it and move to the trailer.

I have seen a couple of other hams with Hustler 5BTVs mounted on the tongue or the rear bumper. I had a 6BTV and was not impressed with it. I now run a Butternut HF9V at home as well as a Carolina Windom 80 at 50'.

Hope to meet you down the road. check out the Texas Boomers down in the South Central Section.

thanks Ken...By the way, I usually tell my XYL that I purchased any new ham gear at the "sidewalk sale" for $14...

Do you make Belton? I missed it this year but may go next April...I used to go twice a year but haven't been able to lately...

If you're not otherwise occupied, a misc group gets together on 3897.5 some time between 5am and about 6:30 or so every morning...It's very informal and not organized at all, just a group...everybody welcome...not a net, more of a roundtable...join us....73, Fred

I put my TS-2000 something like six feet from the main power distribution panel in the rig.. So I run off the house supply.. Good mount from the sounds of it.

you know there is a company or two that makes a motorized fold down mount.

Just push a button and the antenna folds flat.

You see what Tarheel wants for the motorized mount....it ain't going to happen for a while. Mine cost about $30.00 and about two hours to build.
