Installed an ICOM IC-208 VHF/UHF rig in a GMC Terrain.
1. Drilled a hole as high as possible on passenger side firewall. Installed gromet.
2. Mounted radio under passenger seat with velcro.
3. Mounted control head under CD entry hole with velcro.
4. Mounted speaker in center storage area under car radio.
5. Routed power cable to the battery through the firewall, along top of the passenger side fender, across the front of the engine to the battery.
6. Routed antenna cable through the firewall.
7. Mounted antenna on black "L" bracket installed between fender and hood. Used NMO type mount. Hood to fender clearance is minimal, so I needed to remove the coax's outer cover to connect to the antenna mount. I then covered the exposed coax shield with electrical tape.
Challange was to get the courage to drill a hole in the firewall. I used small drill, then larger sizes to get a half inch hole. My hole came out above a frame member under the hood.
