KC9NPT, welcome aboard and congratulations. Like 2 Bit said...now you get to start spending money.

To get on HF, you can use either Echolink or IRLP. This will allow you to connect through you computer or through a 2m or 70cm repeater into the system via internet.

Pretty neat that you can talk to a fellow in Australia on a local 2m repeater or through you computer with just a tech license.

For the time being, I'll stick with my FT-60, altho I did buy a Pryme SPM102 speaker mike and a Pryme RD28? 17" flexible antenna.

On another topic... do you like your 2002 Wrangler? We have had a 99 Cherokee 2WD since it was new, as a daily driver/wife's car. I have recently gotten the bug for a real "Jeep" Jeep as an additional run-about vehicle (read toy for Robert) . I may try and find a non-abused old CJ-7 or go for the comfort of a newer TJ Wrangler (2001-2006). I know the on-road ride of the TJ's is best of the CJ's and YJ's due to the coil springs but an old CJ is temping . Whatever I get will not be a mudder or off-roader. I know the TJ Wranglers have the same great I-6 fuel injected engine as our Cherokee. You just cant beat that engine for longevity.

Hey would you want to trade the Wrangler for some ham gear? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Can't drive ham gear to work

As for the wrangler, this is my 2nd. Used to be a trail guide for 2 Jeep clubs in the area. Would stick with a '98 or newer, don't expect much in way of gas mileage. I get between 10 -13 on a good day. Of course 4.10 gears and 33" tires don't help.

Mud is your enemy, but off roading is great, as long as there's a legal place nearby.

Merrill, I owe you an apology. Yes, the software on this site does go back and add to previous posts anything you add to your sig later and I did finally find your new call listed. I was under the impression that calls were given out sequentially but apparently that is by location also. Please accept my sincere apology for questioning your call and welcome to the world of Ham radio.

Tom,

Apology accepted, but wasn't necessary. Don't worry about it.

Looking forward to seeing how well my little HT works in the motorhome on our travels.

Also found it interesting that previous signatures changed. I figured just new posts would show the call sign.
