Just came by UPS, The ARRL Handbook of Radio Communications, well that should keep me busy reading this winter, and maybe out of trouble with the DW. LOL
I need to read the Handbook, since I am a new ham, I have so much that I want to know. Just started also reading about the OSCAR'S so far really interesting. So plenty to pass the long cold winter.
What kind of project do you have planned this winter?

Not to say that the ARRL Handbook is not informative but !
The handbook is not "THE" most informative source, you can find a whole world of reading on any radio related subject on the internet and many down loadable E-BOOKS (if you have some sort of high speed and a empty hard drive or other mass storage.
Not to mention links to printed books for sale.

Keep Hunting !

Hi John, you are right, so much to read on the net, I have spent hours there, and love every minute of it. When it gets really cold, I plan to do even more.

Bill:
Here's a link for you, the information is vintage but still very good reading and if you are an "OLD FART" to ham radio will bring back memories.

Technical books online

This was sent to me by a friend and is a wealth of information, tends to get one thinking about adapting some of the older logic to current day.

73 & Enjoy, John

Bill - this is probably too late to do any good but here a good site. It is technical info, setup like a class would be. It covers everything from start to finish and you can skip ahead if you hit a topic you know/are comfortable with.

Book1 Matter Energy and Electricity

I am waiting for a couple of warm days so I can make my copper J-Pole for 2m and put it up on the RV.

Happy learning!

Good Morning Glenn, here in Crystal City its cloudy and 36, spent the day yesterday outside doing some projects on the motorhome, got a fishing trip this coming weekend down to Clearwater Lake MO. Yes waiting for real warm weather. Thanks for the site, a lot of reading in there, I have fallen way behind on the winter project, to many other things that I want to do, so pick and choose. I use a homebrew SLIMJIM for 2m, really like it, does a good job, next will build a dual-band 2m-70cm one for the base and one for the MH, easy build. The site is Arrow Antenna J-Poles. I like to build stuff my self. I just join The Ancient Modulators Radio Club, should be fun, go to my first meeting on the 19th, their site:The Ancient Modulators Club My 2m is a Motorola Spectra 45w, 128 channel radio with the A7 head, really like this radio, my buddy changed out the capacitors for me and programed it, I have very poor vision. I have a another Spectra coming for the 70cm shortly, so I should have a lot of fun. The AMC club has a remote on the 440 repeater which allows you to get to some frequencies on 6,10,12,17m using the key pad on the A7 head. I have had my license for just a year last month, I am having so much fun with this hobby, met a lot of really great people also. I am a retired carpenter, the learning is so different from what I have done in my working life, but as I said SO MUCH FUN.

Good Morning John, W9WLS, thanks for the link, more good reading, I will use the site, I have bookmarked it, and put it in my favorites on ham radio. Read the post above to Glenn,KD0NSG, to see what I am doing now. For a newbie this is so much fun, I just want to learn more and more, so many ways to go, I really don't know just yet where I headed, but that is OK, the journey is so much fun. Since I joined the The Anicent Modulators Radio Club, I think I will head to the vintage stuff, I like that stuff, not just sure yet, looking at some old Heathkit stuff, time will tell.
Have a great week John
