Blackle Energy-saving search engine,
Google has this really nifty search engine - Blackle I'm not into saving a little energy with my computer, BUT- it is much easier on my eyes to use, and saving a small bit of my energy comsumption doesn't hurt.

I was wrong on the Google part. It is not owned by Google, it just uses their search engine. It's pretty nifty anyway.

Your monitor uses the same amount of energy. Even black is an illuminated pixel. Thus Black, White, Red, Green all use the same amount of power.

Thanks for the information murphy, I ran a search and found the proof you are correct.
Black vs white screen power consumption - 24 more monitors tested « Techlogg.com Techlogg.com
As I said, my benefit is, a black screen is easier on my eyes, any power savings didn't hurt. There is no power savings, in fact that test proves a black screen actually uses slightly more wattage.
