BMK not installed correctly.

I've been in contact with magnum tech. Who may have reached his exasperation point with me. My SOC and I/O aren't monitoring correctly. ( tech believe the solar is indeed charging the battery.)

Can someone interpret the techs suggestion?

" . . . you just take the solar B- from the charge controller and land it on the inverter (LOAD SIDE) of the shunt.
Since I don’t know the amperage of solar charge controller, you will have to decide what size battery cable will be needed to the jump to the shunt.

If your charge controller is proving up to 100 amps of dc current, I would recommend using a size #2 to #1 AWG cable.
If you only have a 60-80 amp charge controller (SOLAR), you can use a #6-#4 AWG wire size." For the record I have a 60 amp outback charge controller.

Thoughts? Mark

Mark, I don't have solar but I do have a BMK. All ground wires have to be connected to the load side of the shunt. In my case, that meant using a busbar for all the grounds because they wouldn't all fit on the shunt's post. The cable from the battery to the shunt has to be sufficiently sized to match the total amps of all your loads (house, inverter, solar, etc.) Mine is a 3/0. Then the individual grounds can be sized for their own function, such as your 60A controller. He said you only need a #6 - #4. In the photo, the cable nearest the battery is a 3/0. The cable away from it (load side) goes to the post on the right of the bussbar. The 3 post on the left are all the ground wires (inverter, house, misc.) that were originally connected to the batteries.

Excellent. I see the issue. The installer has only one side of the equation addressed. This seems pretty straight forward.

I appreciate the response and the effort u put in. Cheers. Mark
