it'll probably be more work to mount it on a bike rack than lay it on the roof.

Sorry, I should have asked my question better. What, if anything, do you do to keep the system from banging around due to speed, bumps, and wind while driving? Thanks for the info!

If this is all about doin' it on the cheap, then just get a 100w solar panel and a solar controller (google Renogy or Grape Solar or whomever) and connect to your batteries via clips, like you said. 100w, if placed perpendicular to the sun, will give you a 5a trickle charger. You have to move the panel every hour or so to keep it in line with the sun, no shade of course. Birds will perch on the top edge of the panels, so you have to deal with that crap, someone might want the panel that you have leaning up against your MH more than you......There are some things to think about.

not too sure what is meant by 'banging around'.... it's attached to the hitch, the hitch is part of your rv. Unless your RV is 'banging around', it won't either.
but, like anything attached to your receiver hitch, having a anti-rattle device added is probably a good idea.

I think, and I'm going out on a limb a little here, they mean while you're driving.

Often learn things on this forum. Appreciate the civility found here. Some fora have a lot of angry “experts” slagging anyone who disagrees with them
