In light of "going Green" does anyone have any idea how many KWH, on average, it takes for a motorhome for a month?
I realize that it will vary wildly, but I am curious what the "average" might be.
We have never stayed anywhere where we had to pay separately for our electricity and I have been curious what it would be.
Thanks!

I don't know about colder climates, but last winter staying in central Florida we used an average of 566 KW-hr a month. During this time, we ran the water heater on propane and used the furnace for heat as opposed to our portable electric heater or the heat pump. Temperatures here in central Florida occasionally got down into the 40s at night, and even got into the low 30s once or twice. Daytime temperatures sometimes get to the 80s, but we didn't run the air since there was usually a comfortable breeze.
As you know, the cost for electricity will vary depending on the weather, your usage habits, and what they charge (we have paid from $.11 per KW-hr to a high of $.14. We usually budget about $2 a day for electricity when there is an extra charge, but it can vary. Since the price of propane is still high, we are running the water heater on electricity this year and will probably use the electric heater a little more, so I expect our electric bill will be a little higher.

We are paying $0.20 per KWH here in Bouse AZ and we use an average of about 250 KWH per month. We do not run electric heaters or air conditioners.

we used 1320 kwh from 11-14-08 to 12-12-08. cost was $103.55. the month before that it was $88.10. we are in vancouver, wa. i expect the next bill will be more because of several days of below freezing weather and approximately 10 inches of snow.
we use the electric water heater mostly. when we take showers i run the propane and the electric h20 heaters together.
we use 3 1500w cube type electric heaters with fans. sometimes 2 of the heaters are set on 750 watts. we use 1 drop cord 60w light in the potable water compartment and another in the water service compartment to keep the water system from freezing. the water pump compartment is kept warm enough by the water heater.
we lived in the moho full time.

Thanks Dan!
We were in Amarillo for December and had several days of freezing weather. We had two electric heaters as well as the furnace going. Fortunately were at a park that had a set monthly price, but it still took quite a bit of electricity.
It was hard to stay warm.

Mike, I also am in Bouse but here they charge us .18 Kwh. I did 400+ last month and I did run an electric heater a few times at night to supplement my heating.

So....It seems that some of the RV Parks have found a new source of streaming revenue!
I guess the only defense is a good offense....vote with your feet.
=======================================
On the other hand, I guess the parks are providing incentive to be Green... or be broke!

Power is costing the campgrounds more, just like everyone else. They can either bill separately for the power or up the monthly bill enough to cover the extra power cost.
Problem with a flat rate is that some folks will use lots of electric to run their portable heaters and keep the palce warm. The ones that want it cooler and try to conserve enery, have to pay the same.
When we lived in the RV, we opted to pay for our power as we used it and saved money.
In Texas, the RV park can not charge you more for the power (make a profit) than what they pay for it. Currently my locked rate in the Houston area is 0.144 per kWh.

Yeah 20 cents per kilowatt hour is high - the good news is that the monthly site rent is $150.

OK--So that kinds of evens it out. It puts you in the driver seat to determine what you are going to do.

I am in Yuma, AZ. Use electric for water heater and fridge. Bill for 12/15 to 1/15 was for 425 KW @ $0.14. New law in AZ now limits rates in an RV Park to the amount a single family residence pays or $0.85. Many RV parks are trying to find ways around this but it will soon catch up with them. If you are in AZ and want more info log on to Arizona Association of Mobile Homes Owners. AAMOH.org. You will have to poke around the site for awhile but will finally find in under Laws.

So, about midnight I have this dream about Mrs Alexander, my third grade math teacher. She is saying to me, "Bobby, this is why you got a D, you need to check your home work. That is $0.085/KW". And she also said that "you need to reread everything, that should be AAMHO.org". Now I'm going back to bed. Maybe I can dream about Mary Margaret, the red headed girl that sat in front of me in Mrs Alexander's class. Goodnight.
