HERE is a new light I found from an email today. Note that they went through FCC type acceptance so hopefully THESE won't shut down every TV and radio within 50'

Voltage management for LED lights is achieved via electronic regulation, incorporating switching devices which can be a potential source of radio interference. Reportedly the use of a ferrite core just upstream from the light will reduce interference.

I did not have any problem with any of the lights we have.

Thats also where the heat comes from... And the junction points, though those you wont feel.

There's a reason that 5W LED's are placed on heatsinks..

I have changed most of our incandescant bulbs to leds, and the light is whiter than before. I have mostly 1.5W but one 5W and it is bright enough to read by from a distance. I will change the others over as I get cash - in NZ it is about $19 per bulb, but they last 10 000 hours so it should be worth it. They are much cooler running than the incandescants, which is great in Summer.

I took out the two lights fittings above the bed, and used the plastic covers to replace the ones over the sink which had become very brittle. I replaced them with a special led fitting that is directional, and put a secondary switch beside the bed so we don't have to sit up to turn the lights off at night. You can still see the screw holes, but the fitting covers the major hole from the previous fitting. Will try to post pics of the conversion later this week. Although I also intend to have sufficient solar not to have to worry about the power usage, I can't see why you would want to use more power than you need with light fittings, if LED uses less. Just my two cents worth, and not intended to start a flame war or massive argument!

I have enjoyed the thread "Solar that really works" and have learnt a lot (I hope).

Not fantastic - but OK. I decided to go cheep and bought all thru Ebay at less than $4.50 per bulb. Bought at least one of each different type for testing: end fired, round with end and board/panel. Ended up using mostly board type. Yes cheep is blue but after a while you forget. DW quite happy with results EXCEPT vanity light. had to keep filament bulbs there for now. Finally figured out that I have room for more than two board types in the fixture so I will try that next. We don't dry camp, yet, so heat output was the main reason for changing. Finally found home for each different type I bought. Example - one end fired went in porch/patio light fixture, the bayonet was pointed down so end fired bulb put more light down to the ground where we want it and not as much to neighbors. We really have not had a problem with the blue light once we got used to it. Our old tired eyes work just fine with the new led's

I spent at least $30 apiece for 6 of them for the lights over my couch. After trying to use the reading lights , I took them out and put the originals back in. I did not like the light nor the lack of brightness
