Freightliner Debuts XCL Diesel Pusher Chassis

Freightliner XCL chassis

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp., Gaffney, S.C., has released a new 34,320-pound GVWR XCL diesel pusher chassis designed to provide a lower center of gravity and expansive storage on lowered frame rails.

"The advantage of the XCL's lowered rails is that it offers the motorhome OEMs an opportunity to design more pass-through storage beneath the floor,"¯ said Dean Schaper, director of sales and marketing for Freightliner.

With a 267-inch wheelbase and 60-degree wheel cut, the new chassis, developed jointly with Winnebago Industries Inc., is the third in Freightliner's industry-leading XC diesel pusher series that already includes straight- and raised-rail configurations.

The XCL platform debuted during Winnebago Dealers Days May 14-16 at the Mirage in Las Vegas, an event at which the Forest City, Iowa, manufacturer introduced 40-foot Winnebago Vectra/Itasca Horizon and Winnebago Tour/Itasca Ellipse Class A's on customized versions of the XCL that Winnebago has labeled the Maxum.

"They (Winnebago) take the XCL chassis and add structure to it to support the motorhome body," Schaper said.

Equipped standard with a 350-hp Cummins ISB diesel engine, the XCL is available with optional Cummins ISL turbocharged diesel engines rated up to 425 horsepower.
