Columbus 320rs

I went with this model as exterior look was important to me. I looked at higher end models but they looked kinda just as junky to me as the Columbus does. This is the model I chose for full timing. I wonder why they don't say $1,000,000 suggested retail price?

Looking at the workmanship on this unit its no wonder most of our stuff is made in China these days. Made in America just has lost its meaning.

At least the unit did not fall apart on the way home which I was nervously expecting.

I thought it was interesting how there are people who buy the Columbus and begin to talk about it or make a video and then the vapor trail just dies. I will keep this thread alive letting anybody that cares or does not care what living with the thing is like. I half expected the front jacks to collapse as I was taking it off the truck. They make me quite nervous.

Owners manuals for Rv? Is that a crazy concept or what? I guess they just expect you to know how to use all this stuff. Columbus does have one on their site but they might as well not have it for the nothingness it offers.

I am really confused as to why they would make the power supply to an rv 110 volt. Rv place told me I had no inverter on the unit but I have a manual for one. Maybe its just got a battery charger somewhere on the unit? I don't get it. Buttons all over and I don't know what they do.

A good dealer should have done a walk thru with you before delivery so you could address issues then. I've heard of a few rv's sold new that didn't include much support literature but maybe we can help fill in the gaps. Maybe if you make a list of the most important questions and post them on the 5th wheel or Forest River site (if there is one) you'll get some helpful responses. I hope things iron out soon- you didn't actually say if anything's failed yet or if it's still under factory warrantee. Maybe if you just drove it off the lot you could request a PDI after the fact. Anyway, we're here to help if possible.

A PDI on an RV would be pretty intense if they were able to tell you everything and if the person could remember everything.

They did do a PDI but as I said. Its kinda like when they make you sign a paper that you inspected the unit. I think if you were to really do that it might take a day or two.

The unit was supposed to be a 15 but it turned out to be a 16 so that I guess is to my advantage. Somehow I even got it before the price increase went into effect on the newer 15's coming in.

Nothing is broken yet other than the entry door does not want to shut. Realistically looking at the unit I see a turd. But all the campers sort of look that way to me.

I will come up with questions along the way I and will be sure to post them here.

If I understand it right. The shore power is plugged into 220 volt and the camper just splits the legs to get two 110 lines?

Good luck with your less than high end rig. It sounds like you are less than high end happy with it. As always, you get what you pay for.

Columbus Resources

I have Columbus 3600TH. It had some growing pains before everything got worked out right. I got very frustrated at first with just how many little (and a few big ones) things could be wrong with a brand new 5th wheel. Now all's good and next month I'm moving into it full-time!!

There is a Forest River Owners forum with a sub-forum for Palimino/Columbus owners. It is not very active.

There is a Columbus Owner's group on FaceBook that is very active. If you're on FaceBook go there. The 320RS is possibly the most popular model from Columbus. The folks on the FaceBook group are extremely helpful! They also have many owner's manuals for the odds and ends (furnace, water heaters, fireplaces, fridge, microwave/convection ovens, etc).

If I can help with any specific problems or questions, let me know.

A little off topic but I always liked the 340 RK very much. The kitchen design is extremely spacious and should we ever decide to switch to the 5th wheel aspect of rv'ing it's on my short list. (we've looked at DRV and a couple of other higher end units but they don't come close as far as utility and comfort.) I know I would probably have to work out some bugs along the way but I think I'd have a much more livable rig. JMHO

I still can not quite understand why you would buy a POS in the first place. You obviously had some doubts about it up front and start trashing it before you even get it home. Why not do some research and see what other rigs may have going for them before you bought this? From the sounds of it though, nothing is going to make you very happy or satisfied.

It does not matter what they cost they are all the same. Junk! Some are fancier than others, that is all.

Some people are happy as hell with this camper but it is just the same as mine. I think most people would not have even noted the problems I have with mine. They would have just used it. My old lady is happy with the camper, she just does not know better like I do.

Would you ever be happy with this?

I enjoyed your review on the FR Forums. ("Koala-like reflexes" had me LOL-ing.) Sorry your RV is a disappointment.
