I found out why it was soo cheap...

First, trailer brakes don't work. Why: bearing seals leaking onto drums, all four wheels. Fixed that. Put wheels back on ground and test run. EEEK, still no brakes. Replace all four magnets, still no brakes. Found bad splice, Repaired it. Now all magnets work. Have four spare used magnets. About to go for another test run, check underneath first, notice freakin' broken spring on left side of rear axle. All three leafs broken, one old break and two new breaks. Those shackle bolts are tough, especially after being on there for sixteen years! I'll try to get photos up after I get thru with this crap, if I haven't burned it up!!!!

At least you can work on it yourself. I would of had to take it in for repairs and would have been costly I am sure. Best wishes and hope it works out.

There always seem to be surprises in what we buy. Our MH lost all 5vdc two days after we brought it home. DH is still crawling around under there hunting for the break or switch or gremlin that turned out all the house lights!

Re Shakle bolts.. I used an angle grinder with a cut off wheel and sliced the nuts (and bolts) much like they were made of warm butter.

Worked great.. Did damage one already toasted shackle though ... but the shop said "no loss, and showed us why (oval shaped holes) so it needed replacement to begin with.

That angle grinder/sander/wire weel/whatever tool is one of the most used power tools on board.

Here are a couple of photos ya'll asked for

Got all 4 brake magnets put on and found that problem was not bad magnets, justalled a couple of old/bad splices in wiring. Installed new axle spring.

The joys of owning an older RV. Things wear out and just plain break.
