My First Diesel Pusher
Been on the hunt for a real affordable diesel pusher and since I already own a 2002 Newmar Mountain Aire, I wanted to stay with Newmar. Well, I got lucky while visiting Orlando in January and found this well maintained, 2001 Dutch Star 4095, which was the top of the line floorplan that year. I love the quiet and power of the CAT 3126 engine before CAT had to start adding all the EPA stuff to the engine, which eventually drove them out of the RV business. I've just upgraded all the electronics with a King Dome, Sirius/XM radio, GPS with dash cam and 2 Blu-rays. I'll be replacing the built in table and credenza with a full comfortable dinette. I just have trouble "shoe horning" myself into those small chairs and I've got enough storage to lose the credenza. I'm also installing a new, pull out Air Dream sleeper sofa so that I'll be up to a sleeping capacity of 5. Can't wait to hit the road this Spring.

Congratulations! Great choice. I have that engine, on my 40 ft DP. Plenty of power, and great mileage.

I tried to post some pictures, but it didn't take. I also tried to change my Avatar, but that didn't save either. I'm a little rusty on iRV2, since I haven't been logged on in quite a while. Maybe you'll know about this option. The spec sheet says that I have an electronic temp. gauge/compass in the mirror. I called Newmar and they said it would show up in the back up camera, but I still haven't figured out where this option is or whether it is functional. Love my air horn.

What kind of mileage should I expect without a TOAD traveling in a variety of terrains? I was hoping for 10 mpg. Can you recommend a good TOAD vehicle. I'll be in the market for a new (used) car and I figured I might as well look at a TOAD now, versus down the road when I'm traveling 3 to 4 months per year.

This is refering to the "rear view mirror" option, the display will be right on the rear view mirror in the corner of it, outdoor temp/direction, one displayed at a time.

By rear view mirror, you're referring to the drivers' side outside mirror? If so, how is the display activated? Is there some button hidden somewhere? There are buttons and displays all over this coach that I'm still trying to figure out what they do.

I have a Cummins........I am going to guess 7-8 mpg, and maybe in the low to mid 8's not towing on the CAT..............I doubt you will see 10 mpg?
For us, we like to venture off-road on our vacation's........it is a Jeep JK for us.

Congrats on the new Dutch Star. You're gonna love it. I love mine.
We are using a Jeep GC as our toad. it is nice and easy to set up to tow 4 down.
The avg. mpg I get is between 7.0-7.5. I lose less then .5 mpg with the toad on. Most of the time I can't even tell when it's there.
Best of luck and Happy Trails!!!!

Esfritzi,
Congratulations! We too do some off-reading..so it is a Jeep Wrangler JKU. Like Amaerican express, I won't leave home without it. I don't yet have my new coach, so will have to defer to others regarding MPG.

I have a CAT 3126 that's a bit older ... gets about 7.5 with the 2400lb toad (a little better without) and once or twice I've gotten around 8.5 if I stay at 60-62 on flat terrain.
