Well we made our maiden voyage and had 4 breakdowns, so in honor of this nightmare of a trip, i present our mh

Uh oh! What happened? Break downs are never fun. Especially on a biiiig motor home!

Right front brake line was not tightened down after new brakes were installed, transmission line ruptured, serpentine belt broke tearing off new transmission line, and starter went bad.

Another breakdown and I was going to paint the name Titanic 2 on the mh

, but Betsy got us home with no more problems.

These are the kinds of things that happen with vintage MH's. You will have to go through everything to see what else might be wrong before it breaks. It's less expensive to fix before rather than after. And breakdowns are never fun, whether in a smaller, older MH or a brand new large MH. The new one is, however, more aggravating.

By the way, congrats on MH purchase. Once things are fixed, should be fun to play with.

Well, It spent 2 months in a mechanic shop where they went through everything mechanical before we left on the trip, all of the items that broke were brand new items that proved to be defective when put to use, except for the loose brake line, that was just plain carelessness. So it was not lack of trying to be proactive on getting things repaired and prevent breakdowns, it was bad parts--probably made in China

The really annoying stuff was with the coach, the furnace worked great the 1st night, but then broke during the second night. The water heater also quit working after performing without a flaw, all the wires melted on it. Now the choice is pay someone $100 an hour to fix the problems, or just purchase a new surburban furnace and a new on-demand H20 heater decisions, decisions Oh for some foresight to work as well as hind sight

Well.....The furnace is original? Same as the water heater...Might invest in a new one, but have a tech look at it and give you some advise. It looks like a rig that's in great shape. DW had a SW way back and loved it.

Yes, the furnace and the water heater are the original ones, both of which are discontinued models, which is why I am reluctant to spend money to repair them. The SW has only 32500 miles on it and is in great shape . Everything, except the fridge, is original and putting money into used stuff may be just the beginning of adding more money to the same equipment which in the long run could add up to being the price of a new furnace and water heater which I could install myself. Hence my dilemma. Fork out the the 2gs now and have all new furnace and water heater, or slowly over a period of time as the repairmen work on them to keep them going. There are so many moving parts to the furnace that at $100 an hour for labor in 8.5 hours a new one is paid for, and the water heater can build up deposits that will clog its efficiency which means a new one that is up to snuff after forking out labor for repair and parts for it.

JMO, but I would keep it. Ours is a 82 we bought 3 years ago everything works had to replace the fuel filters first trip so we know about the tow. It came with extra parts under the couch what a find!!!!, The gennie is giving me problems now, my fault though. Need to get a fuel pump and a electric choke, all which I have found just no $$$ now, LOL
It pulls the caddie with no problems.
Going to start full time this fall. Can't wait.

folks on this forum can walk you through info on water heater and furnace. Might save you some $. I'd hate to see you put in new and have them fail like the other things that broke down. It is good to have a diagnostic done on both items before replacing.
