Well, this happened......

2019 Newmar Bay Star 3401 (with an '05 Wrangler Unlimited toad)

Drove a whopping 200 yards from the dealer to the motel. Holy crap, this is unlike anything I've ever driven!!! Planning on leaving around 6am tomorrow for PA so I can avoid a lot of traffic.

Thanks all of you whose posts helped steer me this way and that over the past couple of years. Now let's see if I can make it to retirement and REALLY enjoy this thing!!

Nice looking rig! Congrats...

Brand new Class A's are often targets for thieves when parked in public places. They would be after the electronic gear like the flat screen TVs and stuff.

Try to park it where there's plenty of light overnight, maybe where the RV door can be seen by the desk clerk. And ask them if they've had any theft issues from the guest's cars.

If you can't do that, then at least turn it around so that the door is facing the parking lot and not the trees which would give a thief cover. And be sure everything is locked if course.

Yup....
That’s a beauty. Even the tires still look shiny. It screams brand new. I know it’s just hours old, but see if you can have the other side NOT facing where NOBODY can see the other side. I suspect there may be an outside TV, but also, the only door on your rig.

Oh.....and nice n easy does it. Give yourself lots of time. Cruising speed for most of us....even the experts....has been discussed forever, but the consensus is 62mph gets best mileage and leaves the best reserve horsepower on tap.

Yeah, I thought about out front, but no room. I locked both door locks, all the compartments, and no outside TV. And it's right outside my window and under a light.

I am thinking 45mph. LOL It really is an odd sensation to drive that thing.

Forget the hotel and go out and stay or at least 'sleep' in the new rig. Yea, nice rig. Starting a 45 mph ??? It will eventually get easier and you'll go faster. Be careful out there. BTW: I have an 05 Jeep very similar and like it a lot.

Congrats on the beautiful new rig. I'm sure there is a reason you are staying in a hotel but for me, I would lay on the floor in that rig all night long. I'd fall asleep reading the manuals and playing with all of the switches. Very happy for you.

Okay, so 9 hours of driving and one night in the rig under my belt...

Driving is still kinda scary but not as bad as I thought. Most of it was interstate, only a bit at the end was through a town and "normal" streets. Semis didn't seem to push as bad as I thought they would but man....wind is a booger!!! Pennsylvania is having some crap weather so I got a lot of gusty winds.

Gradually figuring out switches and where things are. I did a lousy job hooking up the water so it was leaking in the "water bay". I also discovered a leak under my kitchen sink by the water heater! I assume that should be under warranty, right? But I don't really wanna go to NY to get it fixed. And that grill that goes over the water heater on the outside? Didn't notice during the walkthrough but the fit looks awful.

I think I slept well, though it seems like I awoke each time the a/c came on. Mattress was comfy enough.

Well, it is no longer "quiet hours". Gonna go what I botched on the water hook-up.
