We moved to PA from NJ when retiring. NJ has an (unenforceable) impact fee for people who move from the state and will no longer contribute to the NJ state income tax. IF you provide an out of state destination a 2% fee is imposed at the sale of real estate.
Moving out tax!

I'm surprised AZ isn't on the list. The only two advantages AZ has is the climate and it isn't CA.

I love my $137 property tax last year. I find (my little piece of) AZ very retiree friendly. Just renewed the tags on my 4x4, $61 for 5 years, no smog check either.

Hmmm...just talks about taxes.

Hard to believe there aren't other considerations in folks' minds when deciding where to spend their retirements!

Question?

How much of each dollar you have goes to taxes, thats one tax or another, thats direct or indirect.
My guess: at least %60

Maybe it is because the OP posted a link to the least tax-friendly states? That may have got the ball rolling in that direction.

I do agree there are other issues... Michigan just started taxing pensions this year. Thankfully mine falls below the threashold.

I will say I did not vote for the jerk who signed the bill to tax pensions.

LOVE southern Arizona. You can keep Maricopa county. Tucson is a great little city with reasonable tax rates, reasonably priced housing and lots to do.

Awh, come to California and spend, then leave. That's my motto. But, seriously, what's wrong with the golden state other then too many transplant retirees. I happen to be a SF 3rd generation native.

The AZ taxes are ridiculous. I will be paying $30K on my new MH. Love the state, other than that.

So, you don't think you should pay any tax on a 350,000$ motor home?
