We have been members for over 30 years and have never been denied a site. There have always been sites available regardless of the time of year. If you plan to use the park on a holiday just make reservations as early as possible and you will not have a problem.

BTW, IMO it is much better to find a nation-wide membership(no longer available I understand) than a restrictive regional membership. The home park makes a huge difference too.
What do you mean by the "home park?"

A friend who in a lifetime member with a nation-wide plan, talked me into investigating and steered me to a man who did offer me a really sweet-sounding deal. I backed out because TT parks are usually out of the way for our style of traveling.
So far all I've looked into don't fit our style of traveling/camping or snow-birding either. When we feel like stopping we want to stop for the night and not have to drive miles out of the way to a participating CGs. When we SB we don't want to have to keep moving every 14 or 28 days. It's not so easy with a TT, a large sunroom and a gazebo.

I have seen and heard this complaint before and not just for TT CGs.

We got our nationwide Thousand Trails membership in 2005 and also have NEVER been denied a site. And we have been to about 75% of all of the Thousand Trails locations. By the way, we continue to enjoy our membership.

My understanding is that many of the sites at TT parks aren't full hookup.

Seasonal site rentals are an increasing problem for traveling TT members. Many of the best sites get rented seasonally. I've never had an issue getting a site because of that, but it has put a crimp in the availability of 50A sites as well as the ones most scenic or convenient.

Sites are available first come, first served, so seasonal rentals usually get first pick because they select early. That's no different than any campground that has seasonal rates, but people who paid up front for a future site feel short-changed because of it. Those of us who are retired and can arrive at campgrounds earlier than Friday night also get a better selection. That's a fact of life. The most positive thing I can say is that TT never overbooks - if you reserve you will have a site no matter how late you arrive. But you cannot reserve a particular site - it's always first-in.

Rancarr, those who presently hold a TT membership are in a better position to answer than I. When joining, you also join a home park. The location and fees vary widely. The Thousand Trails website explains everything. The nationwide plans are not advertised, only zone memberships are sold new, as you see on their map. I still have the name and phone number of a good rep. If you wish I will PM it to you.

Nationwide plans are occasionally advertised for sale or just take over annual fees on the escapees.com forums, and are usually snapped up quickly.

Typically $3 per day. If you take a 50 amp site and don't plug into 50 amps, for example your rig is only 30 amp, you still pay the extra for the 50 amp site. Seems fair. Good rule.

The charge is now $5 per day for NEW 50A sites - if the 50A site was already in place before this year then there's no charge for it allegedly. As for being fair, they should put a lock on the 50A outlets and enforce the $5 charge by way of a key charge. It's not fair at all to force a 30A user to pay for a 50A spot if that is the only spot available.

I'm a member .... link to some info on this site ...

Hi all, I'm a TT member and not endorsing TT, because it is not for everyone. If you don't camp ALOT, it's a waste of money. I got 2 zones during a promo for the price of one for 3yrs because it fits my needs right now.
(2 zones/3 yrs = $450 yr total, for me/ they also offer monthly payments at no extra fee)
In the next few months i will be staying at campgrounds that I have stayed at in the past, but had stayed at regular rates because we were unaware of TT at the time. ANYWAY, in another forum/discusion in this site, TT was discussed and questions were asked. I answered those questions that i believe i knew the answers to, as well as a few others members. (TT aparently is popular enough to rank for two separate discussions here at iRV2 ... LOL)
and just a quick note ....
Their customer service, TO ME, has been excellent, so far. If there is an issue, i have found them to peruse it till resolve happens.

I repeat TT is not for everyone. But if you go on long camping trips, and not to drop anchor, but to keep moving, TT's rates and camping club is a good idea to add to your adventure planning, to keep budget low.

Here a link to that "other" Thousand Trails forum. Hope it helps.

Thank you all for your replies. After looking into it, it wouldn't pay for us.

TT is only a good deal if you use the campgrounds. Are they in areas where you want to visit. There are two basic membership plans. Zone pass where you pick your zone or zones. At Tampa Super Show we bought zone pass for all zones for 499 and dues of 499 annually after 1st yr. The other plan was for virtually life. No two of the plans appear to be the same. Some are named Gold, Elite, Platinum, etc. You can go on line to several on line resellers and purchase a plan. be very careful and understand what you are buying. Before signing any plan call TT with the plan name and number and find out EXACTLEY what you are purchasing. What is the transfer fee? It can be 500 or more dollars. And can you walk away? Can you opt out? In the SE USA there are NOT as many TT sites as the West coast. TT is betting you will NOT use the campgrounds. Kind of like Health club memberships. To date we have Not USED OUR 60 DAYS IN ONE YEAR. The campgrounds we have visited were OK, not exclusive resorts like what is presented. safe travels....ed
