1978 Midas 30' HELP!!

Hi all! I bought a 1978 30' gmc midas motor home recently. It has been stored inside since 2006. I drove roughly 200 miles from detroit mi. To home with no real issues. I'm in the process of updating it to this century. Today i drove 10 miles to fill the lp tank and when i shut it off at home i noticed smoke from under the dash. Finding nothing i walked around the outside and found the drivers front tire on fire. After putting it out i removed the tire and found a round rubber ring that had burned in half and was spilling small metal bb's out of it. This sets before the disk and caliper but behind the lug plate. (at least i think it dose, that's where it was just hanging there on fire when i removed the tire.) i can't find any pics or diagrams showing this ring on line. Can anyone tell me what this ring is called and what if any is it's purpose? I'm sure i have a bearing or caliper issue to have caused a fire. Our local parts store has no listings for motor homes and can only go off gmc truck on parts i have previously ordered. I'm certain i need to know what that ring is for in order to explain to them what i need. Thank you, chuck

Sounds like the spindle bearings ate themselves. The seal is just where they melted through. If so the spindle also bad.

Sounds like some type of after market wheel balance assembly, I bet if you take the wheel off you can just pull it off like a wheel spacer.

Google centmatics or something like that. It is an aftermarket wheel balancer.
