Exclamation 2003 Revolution electrical issues

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and RVing. I just purchased a 2003 40ft Revolution. Before taking delivery from the previous owners they informed me that they had all the batteries replaced for me at an RV service center. When I arrived home with the MH I did not plug in the shore cord immediately. While checking things out the radio quit working and would not work with engine running or house batteries. Then the following day the steps would not automatically retract. After plugging the shore cord into my residence everything appeared to work fine and the inverter light was solid green and showing the batteries charging, however the Freedom remote control panel inside the MH was not functioning at all. I then unplugged the shore cord and tried the generator. The generator powered both air conditioners fine, but the media player, outlets and some lights would not work. The inverter also did not appear to be on or charging the batteries. The Freedom remote inside the coach never functioned for either the shore hook up or generator. While checking the inverter I noticed a negative and positive wire attached to the inverter posts. I then discovered another unattached wire with red band tucked behind the inverter storage area, as if neglected to be reconnected. Could this be my problem with some circuits not working and the Freedom remote panel not lighting?

Very well could be. I would contact Fleetwood and ask for the electrical schematics for your coach. They should be able to email them to you. Be prepared, there are many files and it does talk some time to figure out what they are showing. In the packet of schematics there should be one for the battery/inverter compartments showing all wires. I also asked for the plumbing drawings.

Fill out this form and see if they can help you.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

Congrats on the new rig! I would bet that's your problem but can't tell you where that wire goes. I would take it back to the tech that did the work. Keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I believe the inside remote panel is wired by a phone cord wire.

Hi Hans57,

I also own a 03 Rev 40C and had a similar problem. Let me share my experiences and perhaps this will help you correct your problem.

What you are describing indicates your batteries are very depleted from not being charged. Pretty much the same the thing happened to me.

As Tha_Rooster said, the remote panel is connected via a data cable that looks like a phone line. If you haven't already done so, disconnect that cable at the inverter and plug it in and do this a couple of times to knock off minor corrosion that can build up over time.

Next, remove the remote panel in the coach. Do the same thing with removing and inserting the cable a couple of times. That will clean off the contacts and "reset" the remote so you can see what the inverter/charger is doing.

If the display is blank after doing the above, press the "Charge" button on the remote to turn the inverter/charger on. The display will light up and you'll see the charge state light on the far left and the voltage lights indicate the approximate charge level of your batteries. Assuming the inverter/charger begins to charge the batteries, you'll see the DC amps lights indicate the amount of current being pushed into your batteries. It'll be around 75 to 100 amps to start and will lower as the batteries are recharged.

The other cable you asked about is the temperature sensor line. The inverter adjusts the charge rate based on battery temps. That line is connected to one of the battery's positive posts. I imagine at some point it was disconnected and that person didn't know where it was to be hooked up and just left it off. This line runs to the inverter and is connected with an RJ11 telephone plug. Like with the inverter control panel, remove and plug it in a couple of times to remove anything that would prevent a solid connection.

Another thought. The inverter remote also allows you to set up the inverter/charger. You may want to check those settings. When I checked mine it wasn't set correctly.

If you don't have the manuals for the inverter/charger, let me know. I have them in PDF format and am happy to send them to you.

Take care and hope this helps resolve your problem.

Dave
