My wife had an interesting idea. How about RVing to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver? (We'll be fully retired by then.) Does anyone know if there are RV parks within a reasonable drive? Could someone stay in Washington state, near the border, and drive over into Canada for events?

It's of a wacky idea. I'm sure it will be crowded and prices will inflate for the event, and there would be the winter driving/camping issues to consider. But it's something to think about.

Best regards,

Hack

Peace Arch RV Park in Surrey (suburb of Vancouver) is a nice one, but am not sure if they stay open in the winter months. Might even open just for the Olympcs, though.

You can find campgrounds in the Vancouver area in any campground guide (Trailer Life, Woodalls, etc.) or via the internet. Here's one good source for British Columbia: BC Campgrounds

There are several web sites dedicated to the 2010 Olympics and lodging information will eventually appear in one or more of them. Discover Vancouver

That's a really excellent idea!! Though it's a ways away, please post your progress on it, in case I can figure out a way to pull it off in spite of the job. Thanks! Chris

Vancouver and Whistler will be excellent places to hold the 2010 Olympic Games. RV accommodations should be good in the area of Vancouver, however, I'm guessing it will still be somewhat limited in the mountains of beautiful Whistler.

We are 178 miles from Vancouver and about 75 miles further to Whistler, both too far to travel on a daily basis from our home in Bremerton, Washington. We are talking about taking the RV to Victoria Island BCC and commute from there. I might add that Victoria has much to offer for the visitor ...you will probably like it much better than Vancouver and your stay will most likely be cheaper.

Yes, you could do this but it probably will not be feasible. There are not too many places to stay right at the border and also, I'd bet the border traffic will be extra heavy and will consume a lot of your time.

Winter driving? I don't believe that will be an issue you will have to deal with, at least on the Interstate-5 corridor. There is little snow in the Pacific Northwest in the lowlands. We are very near Seattle ...haven't seen snow this season.

Where is our iRV2 member 'ROADFROG' that resides in Victoria BCC? He would be a great one to answer a few questions to the subject.
