2015 for $5,000 more than 2014

there is a sale going on at MHSRV. My parents are looking at the Coachmen Pursuit.

They are doing the "closeout price" promo.

There are a lot of 2015 and only one 2014 (all new, not used).

My parents want new... I know... 30% drop when you drive off the lot.

Anyway, is it worth the extra $5,000 to get a 2015 vs the 2014. They seem identical in specs.

Just wondering if five years from now when they go to trade in or sell will the "one year newer" make up for the $5,000 spent initially?

Although 5K is not a small number, it only represents a small percentage increase. What do you parents want? If the floor plan of the 2014 does not match their needs then a custom ordered 2015 makes sense. It is probably what we will be doing in a few weeks for our new coach. In my mind, the increase is there only because the dealer wants to clear current inventory before investing in new. I sort of feel that the 5K can be negotiated down when it comes close to closing a sale. JMHO

IMHO! You may not get that much give on a '15 as they are relatively new on the lot, so interest they pay their bank will not amount to much. If specs and floor plan are the same, I'd go for the '14 as it will sell and warranty as new. Four to five K buys a lot gas.

The difference in the msrp of $5,000 is probably a whole lot more if you take off 35% off the 2014.

DO NOT PAY MSRP!!!!

As just stated, most RVs can be had for 30 to 35% off MSRP. You have to negotiate!

There will not be a whole lot of difference 5 years from now IMO.

Sorry - should have added - they are NOT paying MSRP... all the prices I was mentioning are based on the price after dealer discount.

MHSRV is having their close-out sale + a RV Show Sept 1-6 so all the RVs we are looking at are discounted 34%.

2014 MSRP $113,237
normal dealer price $79,911
show price $74,911

for $5,000 more they can get the same deal on a 2015...

They have decided on the 2014 and are going to close the deal today. They asked the dealer for the best offer over the phone and tried to do some haggling, but since it is already 34% off MSRP they said that is the bottom price.

They have been selling every unit we look at in less than 5 days so I do not see any reason for them to want to drop the price any lower.

I would not take the 14 and be dealt the first year depreciation which will be far more than the $5000

I would agree with Don about the first year depreciation, but if the keep which ever one 5 years, the difference will probably be around that $5K. If they keep it for 10 years then they will have saved money to go with the 2014. I guess it just depends upon why you are making the purchase.
