20amp to trailer

when I camp I always run a extenion cord out the back window
and connect to the 20amp park supply for a heater.
I would like to add a receptacl to the outside of the trailer maybe
under the slide that the tv is in.
has anybody done this?

Hi larcougar,
Can you tell us about your RV? Make model and year would be helpful. The avatar shows a 5'ver. Is this your RV? Is the RV already wired for shore power? If so is it 30 or 50 AMP shore cord (3 male prongs is 30 AMP and 4 prongs is 50 AMP.

The bottom line is yes, an outlet can be added. A lot depends on what is already in the RV and where it is located.

On my 5er I added another outlet that's fed via shore power through an added 12 gauge extension cord or through an inverter. I did it because I wanted to use a cheap 100$ AC unit in our bedroom while we sleep.

Yes.
Suggestion: if you have a basement or outside storage where you can run the cord in you may be able to run an extension cord into it from inside the coach.. I did this in fact on my Class A.. it may also be possible to lay it in next to the existing power cord.

NOTE and Considerations:

I have been on sites (Am on a site) where the power pedistal has good strong copper feeder wires that can handle the load without issue.. (IN fact the site I'm on is a 50 amp site) Next week I'll be on a 30 amp site where I've done this kind of thing before without issue...

However another park I'm at the 30 amp sites for the most part have older aluminum feeders and if you try to pull this trick two things happen very fast.

1: The voltage drops like a rock (i've seen 90's at the pole) and 2: the wires to the pedistal, or the pedistal itself, burn up.. both bad.

So watch your voltages when doing this.

Hi well the only time I would hook both up is when the shore power has
50 or 30 with a 20amp also.
what I want to do is to put a flush mount receptacl on the under side
of a slidout that has the tv cabinet and cut out for a receptacl in the bottom that I can plug my heater into.
I would use 12/2 wire from flush mount to the receptacl on the cabinet
and a 12/2 extenion cord from flush mount to shore power.
