3-4 Roof mounted bike rack?

Hello,

Trying to figure out how to carry 4 bikes. I've searched the forums but haven't been able to come up with a great solution.

Has anyone carried 3-4 bikes on a roof mount of your tow vehicle?

I drive a Navigator and pulling a travel trailer. I can't put anything on the bumper of the trailer nor install a hitch on it. Don't really want to put the bikes in the trailer. Don't want to install a hitch to the front of the tow vehicle.

Looking into a Stromberg Carlson A Frame Bike Bunk that goes over the propane tanks, but worried they will hit the car and the additional tongue weight. I can carry 2 bikes on a roof mount bike rack. A 3rd could be a slight possibility but so far 4 is out of the question.

Anyone else solve this problem?

Hey Lloyd,

I've been pondering the same dilemma. Even though I only have 3 bikes now, our youngest children in several years will each have their own as well. The RV dealer told me about metal fabricators who can install a hitch mount directly to the frame of the travel trailer, avoiding the bumper mount failures. I'm looking around the area for fabricators that have experience with these racks.

I, personally, would like a rear trailer mounted rack as it would help even out the heavy loads up front in the storage compartment. Plus, no worries about lifting and supporting those bikes above the TV.

I know that Forest River makes trailers that have a cargo rack attached to the rear of the camper. I'm sure it's meant to hold a lot more than a spare, like our Bullets.

I'll let you know what I find in the Detroit area.

I'd look at roof racks by Thule and/or Yakima. They're certainly not inexpensive - but I see 4 bike rack configurations at virtually all of the organized rides that I participate in. You'll likely need to "stagger" the bikes (2 facing forward - 2 facing backwards) - however with a vehicle the size of your Navigator - you should be able to make 'em fit!
