30 or 50 Amp Service For Forrest Service Camp Site

I have an unusual question. I am working with the Forest Service to set up some RV pads with all the hookups. These will be used by volunteer hosts in a National Forest. Forest Service says 30 amp service is fine. But I have talked to 2 RV owner with moderate or big rigs and they tell me 50 amp service is needed unless you want to run around turning things on and off. Can someone give me advice on what % need 50 vs. 30 amp?
Thanks, Mike

Have a 50A 5th wheel
On 30A I turn fridge & water heater on propane
On 30A I can run one 15K Btu A/C Unit OR the Microwave with all other AC demands

On 30A my propane usage goes up....higher costs to me and have to refill
On 30A I have to 'manage' my electrical use.......something I do Not have to do on 50A

Preference is 50A
Doable but inconvenient is 30A

Installing 50A is NOT that much more in costs...but this is the Forest Service (GOV) so 30A is what will be installed.

Most, if not all, larger RVs suitable for full-time or long-time living such as those that are likely to be used by your volunteers are wired for 50-amp service.

That being said, you can get by on 30-amp service with a 50-amp rig, but as has been stated, there may be some inconveniences. Having 50-amp service will attract more applicants, which will improve the chance of finding more highly-qualified volunteers. This is especially true if the National Forest is in the south where it is hot.

50-amp service is more expensive to install because it requires heavier gauge, 4-conductor wire instead of smaller, 3-conductor wire. However, the labor to install electric service is the biggest part of the cost and will be essentially the same regardless of whether it's 50 amps or 30.

The most important question is where they are located. If in the south where AC is a must I would recommend 50 amp to allow for running 2 AC's. If in the north you might get by with 30 amp but being a campground host for extended periods of time is like full timing.

It would be inconvenient to have to watch power consumption and have to use propane for water heater and refrigeration if only a 30 amp existed.
