Your talk about a 50 amp receptacle on a 40 amp breaker was very helpful. I decided to change wire out so I have a 50 amp breaker on a 50 amp receptacle. Thank you for the help

You need a dual or ganged 50 amp breaker. since each leg requires 50 amps.
