Yes Lowes and Home Depot both have them that is what I used. Note they only have knockouts on the bottom and the side so plan for that. When not in use I keep a pc of foam wedged in there to keep the wasps out. Your electrician friend should certainly be able to bring a drill home to help you out.

If only using while loading or short term then why 50 amps?

Sure build 50 amp outlet but inside so you can use it for welder or compressor or other handy things.

But a number 10 size wire can carry 30 amps and making a 10-4 cord would handle 2 ac units if only one on each phase so you could have a smaller cord for temp use that should fit under the door.

If you route it carefully at the corner it will fit better too.

It's my understanding that they are wired differently for RV use, 120V 50 amp compared to 240V 50 amp? I know enough about it to get me into big trouble.

If you decide to drill through the wall, I would add a couple of standard outlets for other use and make the whole setup multi use.

I think "TQ60" brings up a good point.....why go through all of this if it's just for loading and unloading.

My coach is parked in my side yard and connected to 20 amp (last 20 years). When we get ready to leave on a trip, I pull it out to the street, connect my toad and run a 50' extension cord from my garage out to the RV to keep the refer powered overnight.

As others have said, you only need an extension cord connected to a 15 or 20 amp outlet to park the coach for loading and unloading. That will power the refrigerator and charge the batteries fine. The cord should fit under the garage door with no issue. Ours stays parked under a rv port at home and I did run 50 amp service to it because we sometimes use it as overflow accommodations when all of the kids are home.

I never travel anywhere w/o one of those, a 50A breaker, and a 5' pigtail. Used it at a venue last weekend.

True, a 12 ga extension cord will run the refer and keep the batteries up. Since the O.P. asked about 50A, I suspect he wants to run ACs as well.

You understand it wrong. 50 amp service is a standard 240 volt setup.

30 amp service is 120 volts only.

Google it. The 50 amp are the same.

You could look at your plug, it should be marked 50 amp 120/240 volt.

Thanks for all the replies. The box MRUSA14 and TMW188 referred to is what I am going to go with.

As I am new to this I got to thinking about extensions. What does everyone use when they need an extension to keep the connection dry?

I used 6-4 SO cable to make a 50' extension. SO cable is very flexible and durable. It has weathered a lot of rain w/o any problems. It's being used right now while the RV is parked at a friends house in AZ. Just raise the plugs up off the ground with a wood block or something to keep them out of any standing water.
