If you are only travelling a couple months of the year, I would suggest you consider a Class A gasser. Diesels like to be used and the cost is considerably more for one.

I agree with Bob, go with gas instead of diesel unless you're going to be in it alot. As far as Class A or a 5er, that's a question only you can answer. We've had Tents, Popups, Travel Trailers, Class Cs and now a Class A. We liked them all while using them but don't see us wanting to go back to anything now that we have the A. But as you can see already from the responses you have gotten, there is a lot of different opinions on that subject. It comes down to what works best for you!

We have camped in them all, tents, pup, tt and Class A's. We have had Class A's since 1972 and would not consider going back to a trailer. No, we have never had a 5er but have camped with several. We had a CJ-5 Jeep for years towed 4 down and now have a PT Cruiser on a Dolly. I have always felt safer towing something small with something large. As far as moving around while in motion, as long as the road is straight and level this is generally as safe as moving around in your house. The DW has made many a meal while under way over the years but as she ages we find that stopping and having a leisurely meal is more attractive than making miles. Of course, we are retired now and time is of less importance. We used to routinely change drivers while in motion but do not do this anymore since the DW doesn't drive as well as she once did.
We began with a 26' gas, moved up to a 33' gas and now have a 37' DP and have not regretted our choice yet. As far as setting up, I can be fully set up and sitting enjoying the view before most 5ers are disconnected from the TV.
As all have said, what works for you but this is what works for us.

Agree. We've had them all...tent, slide in pickup, TT, 5th wheel, Class C and now a MH. We have the time, so the MH is the way to go. If it's going to sit a lot, 5th wheel is the way to go.

Lots of good advice here.We have had all the above over the years starting with a tent then a pup,a class A and now a 5'er.And I must say the 5'er is much easy'er to deal with in all aspects of travel and storage imo.And what guy dont want a new truck? lol. A MH dont like sitting very long in the yard.Insurence is a lot more in a MH.Batteries go bad, gas can go bad etc... And if you want to get away from it all you cant really drive a big DP into the woods. Buy the truck now and in 3-5 years you can get the 5'er.Just my 02.

The biggest issue I see for us with the 5er is this. We will be full timers who will be workamping, or have a job somewhere. So, it's likely at times one of us is going to have to drive to work. Distance to work is going to vary obviously. Driving from St. Johns, AZ to Show Low everyday for example in a 1 ton truck might not work so well.

Another thing to consider is what can you afford to drive on a regular basis? Saying you can use the truck for everyday use is ok, but will you be able to afford the fuel to drive a truck for everyday use? Getting from one campground to another is going to cost about the same whether you have a 5th wheel and truck or a motorhome and toad. But once you're there a smaller toad is going to be more economical to get around with than a truck. Same goes for when you're home and still working, a small economical vehicle is going to cost less to operate than a truck to get back and forth to work and do errands with. At least that's our thought.
