$600K Of Marijuana Seized (in an RV) Near Joliet By Will County (Illinois) Police

pulled this item from a local online news source:

"JOLIET, IL — A 64-year-old California man is detained in the Will County Jail on drug trafficking charges and the 190 pounds of marijuana that was found in his recreational vehicle has been confiscated by the Will County Sheriff's Department, authorities announced.

The traffic stop of Michael Glenn Silliman happened at 8:30 a.m. along I-80 near Briggs Street, police said. A Will County Sheriff's vehicle parked along I-80 spotted the California RV "with the windshield wipers turned on because of the rain but the vehicle did not have its headlights on as required by law," police stated.

Silliman, who hails from Huntington Beach, Calif., was driving alone and told police he was coming from California to visit friends, according to police. Eventually, the Will County Sheriff's Police searched his RV and police say they found 190 pounds of marijuana, 1 THC vape pen, 6.1 grams of meth and a meth pipe.

Authorities said the marijuana has a street value of $600,000.

Silliman was set to have a bail hearing on Tuesday at the Will County Courthouse."

Isn't the important question here: What kind of RV was he driving?

I mean this is, after all, an RV Forum?

LOL

That's an entirely different kind of RV adventure than most of us care to experience, I think.

It's getting confusing out there.

I read last week about a guy driving a delivery truck that got pulled over and the local NYPD celebrated a huge pot bust. They confiscated the 106lb of "pot" and posted on Instagram. High fives all around. Scumbag in jail.

Then they found out it was hemp being shipped to NY to manufacture CBD Oil. Not illegal and the whole thing was a big mistake. Of course, that's what the driver's paperwork said as well. At last report the NYPD had not released the Hemp nor the driver.

Things are not as simple as it would seem.

Make sure the guy has a federal tax ID and a state tax ID for collecting and paying sales tax and then send him on his way. If he's selling anything under the table without paying proper taxes, prosecute him for that not the goods he's selling.

You're not going to stop it so tax it just like any other product sold in this country.

Does this include the pharmaceutical companies, their owners/CEOs, and the doctors that created the opioid crisis? Or bar owners, owners/CEOs of liquor distributors/manufacturers?

It’s only a freaking herb. Only reason hemp was ever outlawed was because of the threat to the cotton industry and their lobby. Did ya know Coke once contained coke?

Mary Jane. Less harmful than nicotine. Nicotine is way, way worse, yet far more addicting. Alcohol even worse yet. How many drunks have murdered versus Mary Jane stoners? It appears to be all about the lobby.

It has +++++ medicinal qualities. CBD is shown to help the brain repair itself. CTE, Alzheimer’s etc, etc, etc. Anti nausea qualities for cancer patients. I know the cancer part x 2, being a 2x survivor.

You still with the Ron and Nancy “war against drugs” ? I agree that meth, coke, heroin should be dealt with severely. But not pot.

C’mon man! Time to enlighten yourself. Such a statement about a pot bus/bust is farcical.

I-80 in northern Illinois is notorious for stops of out-of-state larger vehicles, like motor homes and U-Haul type trucks. The police usually will make some often bogus claim for WHY they stopped that particular vehicle, and will then hold it there until they can get the drug dog to the site of the traffic stop. Local journalists have reported on this, and there have been court challenges, but as far as I know, nothing has changed. It is worse if you look like you might be a brown person. So, traveler, beware!
