A Gift Card w/Password protection

TCs (Travelers checks) are difficult at best to get cashed. They are not what
they used to be. I was thinking if a GC (Gift Card) with password protection,
would be safe. Anyone know of such a GC. TD Waterhouse has one, but
only for customers. So, I would have to open an account.

My bank does not sell GCs....period. When done with a trip, you can't deposit
money back into an account. But, you could spend it on other things. Anyone
know of such a GC, that anyone can buy. I would like to be able to buy $500
worth at least.

Is this for your personal use ? or as a gift to someone ?
You can always use a debit card with your personal PIN number.

My advise would be to set up a separate savings account at your bank and move money over to that for your trip. Have them give you a card for that account. Only move money when you are going away, and only as much as you think you will need.
Just my dimes worth, works for me.

Since late last year all or most gift cards now require a four digit PIN number. Especially the Visa and MC cards branded cards. You can also get loadable cards now allowing you to reload when empty, PayPower is one and look at Reloadit as well.

Ypu can get a prepaid debit card, MasterCard is one. Check with your bank about a prepaid card. I believe you can add to the account as needed.
