A Leftist discussion !

Well, sort of

Did you know that we should all consider NOT hanging out in the left lane (fast lane) in either our coaches OR our cars...

Not that all us good drivers here would, but have seen some discussions about similar things in the past and just ran across the attached maps...

at this writing 29 States have laws to that if your are moving slower than the surrounding traffic, then you should be in the left lane (IMHO, if you're not passing don't run side by side - get behind and draft )

and in 11 states, the laws are stricter - the left lane is ONLY for passing or turning...

good luck

"Slower traffic keep right" and "keep right except to pass" used to be common driving courtesy rules, everybody followed them (and still should). But about the time we lost professional truck drivers we also gained both left lane campers and cowboy speed enforcers who believe it is their job to make sure you don't break the speed limit by blocking you. Consequently, states have had to pass laws, but unfortunately, they are rarely enforced.

Nothing worse that the race of the governed truckers on a 3 lane interstate at 65 mph blocking traffic.

After hauling the trailer from Salem, OR to San Diego....this is funny and true[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] something about having their doors blown off on a 6% grade by a dodge

Regardless of how fast YOU are going, if traffic is passing you on your right, then YOU are in the wrong lane.

It is the law, good etiquette, and safer. If you are in the left lane look for faster traffic in your mirrors. If you see a vehicle catching you turn your blinker on and then move safely to the right lane. Simple, easy, and safer. I drive a large RV usually pulling a trailer and try to only use the left lane to pass slower vehicles. I also try not to impede the faster traffic when I do it.

Yep, that's us!

We do try to stay in the right lane as much as possible. But when we come to a major city with a bunch of merging traffic lanes coming from our right, as well as seeing signs that state "Through Traffic Keep Left", then we move over 1 lane until we're past the city traffic.

We stand a better chance of not rear-ending that "Sunday driver" who dawdles merging into the right lane then scoots in front of us by a hair from an on-ramp than easily motoring through 1 lane over from that far right lane.

Apparently, the drivers in Florida didn't get the message to move to the right lane.

"professional truck drivers"

Is that an oxy moron?

I am so old that I remember my dad commenting on how courteous truck drivers were.

I think the interstate has something to with it. Before retiring I often drove about 200 miles between offices. I have been having a pleasant drive until getting on the interstate. One visitor from the big city office asked why people waved when he drove by coming to our office. He was confused when we told him it was just being friendly.

When I lived in California, I noticed that some would enter the freeway and immediately go to the left, drive slow, then exit from left lane. I formed a stereotype about these drivers. When I worked in China, that appeared to be the custom. Not that there appeared to be any organizing principal to driving.

One last point about the left lane of divided highways. That is where you will find drunk drivers who got on the highway the wrong direction.

We have a BIL who will go on an entire trip in the left lane. It doesn't matter how many cars are backed up behind him. It was embarrassing for us to be riding with him. When we see a left laner we always comment, "There goes Larry."
