Our first RV in 1974 was a 1972 Chevy Sportvan 20 equipped by Travco. Roof popped up with canvas sides, screened zippered window in the canvas, 2 cuft 12v refrigerator, sink, 2 burner stove, portable porta-potty, thermostatically controlled gas furnace, bench seat dining table converted to small bed, upper rails for adding two more sleepers above the converted bed. Two 12v batteries isolated by diodes so the service batter could not be drained using the house systems. The porta-potty was basically a bucket inside a seat-arangment and was emptied by taking the bucket to the "out-house," or other facility. The sink gray water was just a hose on the outside run to the ground (you could do it then). With two young boys, it was perfect and we had lots of fun in it.
Technology has come a long way. To have had the VW mentioned above would have been "Star War Days."
