A Nice Alternative to A Grill
We just returned from a weekend camping trip and had some incredible food while we were camping.
We chose not to bring our Colmena Roadtrip grill this time. Instead we brought the Campchef 2 burner stove we've had for many years. What we did different was, we purchased a Lodge Logic 20' x 10 7/16" cast iron griddle. It's smooth on one side and ribbed on the other. It's a pretty stout piece of iron at around 15 pounds or so. Oh my goodness does it work well! We did bacon on the flat side, ribeye's and chicken on the ribbed side. Everything came out excellent. It doesn't have the capacity of the Roadrip, so for larger meals it might not be the perfect option, but this trip was just the wife and I and it was more than big enough. Cooking for 4 or 5 on it wouldn't be a problem at all.
Clean up. Wait for it to cool (it takes a while) carry it to the back side of the motorhome and use the external shower with hot water and no detergent. Way easier than cleaning the Roadtrip.

That sounds great and easier than a full sized grill. My husband has a tail gate size Traeger that we use but can see where the grill would be more versatile. Thanks

We didn't do any pancakes on it this trip, but many reviews I read about it, said it does a good job on pancakes.
What kind of temperature is best on it for pancakes?
I think the water drop dancing in a good test, but I usually use a infrared thermometer. I didn't put the ribyes on it till the temp was over 550. It seared them nicely.

I've never heard anything but great things about the Traeger's. Does it get pretty hot to heat up a griddle?

The Traeger can get hot enough to heat a griddle - of course wouldn't need it as a grill. We have even baked on it - somewhat successfully. Going to need to practice on that. DH did some modifying on his to get the heat to stay more consistant. Would have to let him tell you about that.

Sounds like the way to go. Help clear this up for me. Did you put the Lodge Logic Grill on top of the Campchef 2 and that is how you heated the grill for your cook surface? Forgive my ignorance but we are new to camping and have never cooked they way that you are suggesting.

Exactly. I put the the griddle over a single burner front to back. It left other burner open for a pot. It stuck out a little, no big deal though. Just gotta be a little more aware that it's sticking out. The portion directly over the burner got the hottest obviously, the other part got pretty hot too though because the cast iron transmits the heat all over very well. Searing on back slower cooking on front. Works great!
