Aftermarket Slidetoppers?

Does anyone have experience with slidetoppers you add on after purchase?
I found 2 makes, and mixed reviews on the 1 sold (Dometic) by Camping World.

Camping World or any large RV dealer could add them for you!

Look for a CareFree of Colorado distributor.

Are you talking the whole topper mechanism, or just replacement material? You can buy the same slide topper that the factory installs from A&E (Dometic) or Carefree, so its not really an aftermarket substitute. It's the real thing! Most any online RV parts discounter offers the install kits, or you can have an RV dealer install if you don't want to DIY.

If you use Carefree, they won't let you do it yourself, it has to be a Carefree approved RV tech or a Carefree dealer. They can be hard to deal with.

Really? I can buy a Carefree Slike Out Kover III at many RV stores, including online outlets like PPL Motorhomes or even Amazon.com. Have it delivered to my home even!

Warranty replacements are a different story, of course, but the OP asked about aftermarket installs.

With two people it's not that hard either. Just read all instructions FIRST.

Yeap, pretty easy to install with two people. I've had mine on & off multiple times, and done the same for a buddy.

You are correct, intended to mention both of mine were warranty issues.

I found reviews at Camp World and 5 of 13 Dometic purchasers were not satisfied and some started to delaminate and come apart after 3 years.

Camping World wants $650 for a 102" installed and $120 less if I install.

I may look at some other vendors as suggested.

Does anyone know if the Carefree's have better/more longevity before coming apart like the reviews of the Dometic?

That was one of my warranty issues. All three toppers were replaced after less than six month's use. The thread disintegrated.

The fabric in my Carefrees is much better than the Dometics (A&E) but the thread used in stitching is not. My Carefree SOK II's are early 2004 vintage and the fabric is still fine, but I have had to restitch most of the seams and edge bindings.
