I have a2001 Discovery and service says I have cracks in my airbags. Has anyone had this and have you replaced them?

A belated ; Welcome to iRV2.
Do you have any suspension air leaks or is this as a result of a visual inspection ?
Is your coach on a Freightliner chassis?

I have a 2000 Holiday Rambler Freightliner chassis. I've often wondered should I replace them proactively or just let it break then handle it?

Hi Dave,

That is really my question. None of my Rv friends have ever had the bags fail so I'm looking for suggestions.

Unless someone can come up with a reason like, it won't drive or it would be dangerous, I would take my chances and find a independent repair shop. I've tried to Google what would happen driving on broken air bag, no luck.

I have a 1999 Tradewinds with a rear bag that is slow to air up sometimes and have tried too move with it down but get a lot of rough vibration about 15 mph. I don't try that anymore.

A complete rupture of an air bag ( air spring ) would drop the corner of the coach , the air system will limit the amount of air loss , and maintain 65 psi, to allow operation of the brakes. The ruptured bag may allow the coach body to contact the tires so driving may not be possible, if the bag is on the rear , driveline angle may cause "U " joints to bind and vibrate or break. That's the bad news, good news is complete ruptures are fairly rare, slow leaks usually develop first, then if ignored the bag may fail completely.
The really good news is, if yours aren't leaking you have time to get a second opinion and estimate.

I have an older class A and I'm replacing my front airbags that no longer hold any air at all. It's been driven without them for awhile. If they are not leaking, then why replace them? Of course they will wear out, airbags don't last that long. I would wait until they fail.
